LUTs FAQ - What are the .Cube and .xmp files for?

LUT stands for "Look Up Table", and they are used to color grade your images to match the original scene, add life back to your images, or add a cinematic look. Many post-processing applications programs utilize LUTs, which is why we have added LUT support in the Photo Raw 2018.5 update. Installing and using LUTs inside the Photo Raw 2018.5 are similar to the Effects presets we all know and love.

However, it is important to understand the different LUT file types when installing LUT files into the Photo Raw 2018 and other applications. If you have received a LUT download from us, you will have three folders. In this example, we have downloaded the "Hudson Henry Core LUTs":

1. "For ON1 Photo RAW" Folder:

This folder contains the .ONpreset file for the "Hudson Henry Core LUTs". If you have received a LUT download from ON1 as part of a purchase or for free from our Loyalty Rewards program, you will have a .ONpreset file for the LUTs. The .ONpreset file can only be installed into our application. You will not be able to install LUTs from a .ONpreset file in any other application other than the Photo Raw 2018.5. If your only concern is to install and utilize the LUTs within the Photo Raw 2018.8, this is the only folder you will need to worry about.

To install the LUTs into the Photo Raw 2018, simply drag and drop the .ONpreset file onto the Photo Raw 2018 application icon. For help installing LUTs from a .ONpreset file into the Photo Raw 2018, please click here

2. "For Other Programs" Folder:

If you have received a LUT download from us, you will also have a folder containing the .CUBE files for the LUTs "Hudson Henry Core LUTs" pack. You will only need these files if you would like to install and use the "Hudson Henry Core LUTs" in your other post-processing applications. There are many other applications (Adobe Premiere, Adobe AfterEffects, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro to name a few) that support .cube LUT files.

The .CUBE files in this folder are only needed if you would like to install these LUTs in another app that supports .CUBE files. If your only concern is to install and use the LUTs in the Photo Raw 2018.5, you can disregard the files in this folder.

3. "For Lightroom" Folder:

This folder contains the .xmp files included in the "Hudson Henry Core LUTs" pack. The .xmp files can be installed and used in Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom. These files are only needed if you would like these LUTs to appear in these programs. If you only want to install the Hudson Henry Core LUTs inside the Photo Raw 2018.5, you can disregard the files in this folder
