What are LUTs?
LUT means "Look Up Table". LUTs are most commonly used for creating and saving color grades so they can be used on other projects. They are also used to make the flat raw image come to life, add a cinematic feel or match the actual look of colors from the scene. Some LUTs will add contrast, saturation or change the colors completely. When using LUTs in ON1 Photo RAW 2018/2019/2020, these are very similar to other ON1 Effects presets.
How to install LUTs from a .ONpreset file:
To install LUTs that are included in a .ONpreset file, simply drag and drop the .ONpreset file onto the application icon to install it. Please note, LUTs that have been bundled into a .ONpreset file can only be installed into ON1 Photo RAW 2018, 2019 or 2020. These preset files (.ONpreset) will not install into any other application other than ON1 Photo RAW 2018/2019. For more information on how to install and manage presets within ON1 Photo RAW, please click here.
To install a LUT from a .ONpreset file, simply drag and drop the .ONpreset file onto the ON1 Photo RAW application icon:
You will also be able to right click on the .ONpreset file and choose "Open With > Photo RAW"
Once you have installed the LUTs from the .ONpreset file, the LUTs will appear as a new Preset category in the Effects module and are also accessible within the LUTs Filter options on the right. In the example below, the "Hudson Henry Core LUTs" have been successfully installed in ON1 Photo RAW. Once installed, you will be able to access these LUTS from within the Effects module:
Please note, a new preset category on the left will only appear if you're installing LUTs from a .ONpreset file. If you are installing your own .cube or .3DL LUTs, please refer to the steps below.
How to install your own LUTs through the ON1 Extras Manager:
We have added the ability to install your own LUTs through the ON1 Extras Manager in the 2018.5 update. This feature is not available in previous versions. Please note, you will not be able to install LUTs into ON1 Photo RAW 2017 or ON1 Photo 10.5.2. For help installing your own files through the Extras Manager of ON1 Photo 10.5.2 or ON1 Photo RAW 2017 please click here.
We had added support for LUTs in the ON1 Photo RAW 2018.5 update. The following LUT file types are supported:
.cube
.3DL
To install your own .cube or .3DL files into ON1 Photo RAW 2018.5, while in the Browse module go to "File > Manage Extras" to bring up the ON1 Extras Manager:
This will bring up the ON1 Extras Manager, since we are installing LUTs, please click on the LUTs Tab shown in the screenshot below:
Next, click on the "Import" button in the lower-left corner of the ON1 Extras Manager:
This will bring up a Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (PC) window. Simply navigate to your .cube or .3DL files, select all of the files and click "Open":
Next, a dialog box will appear prompting you to choose an existing Category to import to or create a new category. In the example below, we have created a new "My Test LUTs" Category. Once you have chosen the Category you want to import to, click "Close".
This completes the installation process. After you have completed this process, you will be able to access these LUTs within the Effects module (continued below).
How to access LUTs you have installed through the ON1 Extras Manager:
Once you have successfully installed your own LUTs through the ON1 Extras Manager, you will be able to access these LUTs from within the Effects module. However, it is important to understand the difference between an ON1 Preset and LUTs installed through the ON1 Extras Manager. If you have installed LUTs through the ON1 Extras Manager, please note, these LUTs will not appear within the Quick View Browser on the left side of the program alongside your other Preset Categories. You will only be able to access LUTs installed through the ON1 Extras Manager within the LUT filter options on the right side of the Effects module. (more on this below)
To access your LUTs installed through the ON1 Extras Manager, simply open an image in the Effects module, click the "Add Filter" button on the right and then choose the "LUT" filter:
This will add the LUT filter to your filter stack on the right. Once the LUT Filter has been added to your filter stack, you will be able to choose the recently created "My Test LUTs" category within the drop-down menu on the right:
After you have chosen the category you want, you will be able to choose the LUT you want to apply within the "LUT" drop-down menu within the Filter options pane on the right:
This completes the instructions on how to install and access your own LUTs through the ON1 Extras Manager in ON1 Photo RAW 2018/2019/2020.
