To be clear, I can not select Make or Lens in 2023 only in 2022.5

With ON1 Photo RAW 2022.5 the company added their own lens correction algorithm for lenses not in the Lens Fun database which are used to build the Make and Lens lists. From page 132 in the User Guide, "If Photo RAW doesn’t have a built-in profile for your lens, it will automatically attempt to correct the image in real time, based on a comparison between the embedded JPG of the raw image and the raw data itself."

Other than that, manual correction is your only option.

Well if that is the only option, I guess 2023 version on ON1 is unusable for me.

You can submit photos to Lensfun so they can create a new profile for it then Photo RAW will pick it up in a future release.

There is an entry for the Z 24-120mm f/4 S already in the database so it could be that there is a problem with the metadata that identifies the lens. I've seen this happen with some of mine. I found the proper lens entry and modified it to match the string being reported by the camera. The files are all xml files and can be modified with a text editor. Use ExifTool to see what is being recored in the EXIF data then compare that with the data in ~/Library/Application Support/ON1/ON1 Photo RAW 2023/lensdb. You'll probably want the file slr-nikon.xml but you may have to look in some of the other Nikon files to find it.

Brian, I can see ~/Library/Application Support/ON1/ON1 Photo RAW 2023/ but the is no 'lensdb' folder or file.

    any ideas?

That's interesting, I thought they were still using it but apparently not. I opened the installer .pkg files for both 2023 and 2022.5 and the lends folder isn't in them any more. I didn't keep the 2022 installer so I couldn't check it. Mine must have been migrated from previous versions of the program.

If you have an installer for 2022 or 2019 you could install that but the further back you go the less of the newer lenses will be in it.

I don't know how techie you are but you can download and install Lensfun on your own system then copy that folder into the ON1 Photo RAW 2023 folder.

You should also talk to tech support about it. I'll see what I can find too.

The install of 2022 does have the 'lensdb' and the missing .jsn files.  The weird thing is on my old mac, the 'lensdb' is there for 2023.  I could copy the the 'lensdb from 2022 over to 2023 on the new mac.  I wonder what else is missing.

Yes, you should be able to copy from your old Mac 2023 to the new Mac.

I just asked Dan about this. Let's see what happens. Maybe it's an oversight in the installer?

I copied the folder 'lensdb from 2022 to 2023 and (cross my fingers) it seems to work on unprocessed images.  Images that have been edited seem to keep the old lens profile even though the menu shows correctly, the image is distorted. There does not seem to be a way to fully rest an image, even after ON1/xmp sidecar deleted, 'reset all'.

I have sent various files/screen shots to support.  This is beta testing.

Dan replied and said they are still including it with the program. However, I had some more questions for him as some of his response did not make sense to me. I'll report back when I have more to report.

Try going to the Finder and Duplicating the image file. That will create a new file that the database does not know about so it should be seen as a new image. You can then trash the old one and rename the new one if you like.

Brian, well not sure what is going on that the lensdb is missing from my newly installed version of 2023.

I did search the lens file in Textedit and did not find NIKKOR Z 24-120mm F4 S or NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 S lenses.  There is the older AF-S 24-120mm F4 ED VR version that sort of works, but once you associate this version with the new version, there is does not seem to be a way to un-associate it the future.

When I look at the lensdb, there is only 14 Z lens listed, but there are over 30 Z lenses available. Is there any way to get updated lensdb so I can use ON1?

If your lens isn't in the Lensfun list of supported lenses then all you can do is submit to them a calibration photo so they can add it. ON1 incorporates the latest version with each new release I believe.

I mentioned above that you can download and install Lensfun separately from Photo RAW and incorporate the info into Photo RAW's data set.

Thanks, the 24-120 is there.  I can't see any way to download the db.

You don't. You download the entire package and install it to your system. Once it is installed then you can move the new items to where Photo RAW can see them.

Thanks Brian.  I think I am going to have to wait until ON1 releases a new version, weeks, months?.  I can not find the package download or barely understand the lensfun site, I am not a programmer or coder.  Unfortunately, 2023 is unusable right now as all my images are highly distorted due to missing lens profiles.

How do you have the Preferences > Files > Default Processing options set? What happens if you change them one at a time?

Do you see your lens listed there?

I have tried the lens correction on and off.  If I turn it on for a single image, the 'built-in' value appears and I can not select any alternative.  If lens correction is on, the same thing occurs.  ON1-2022 operates differently.

When you ask about seeing my lens, are you referring to the camera list in default processing or in the lens correction module?

The list in the Preferences panel.

I only see current and past cameras, no lenses

I finally found the link at Lensfun (not fun) to download and found the DB folder, copied over the old one, fingers crossed.  Now I have to fix the images that were edited with the wrong profile.  Still need a NIKKOR Z 100-400mm F4 profile.
