Steven, Thanks for posting the link.  I didn't post the link because most of the time my posts with links get stuck in a pending state

His videos are a bit too slow for my liking, but he has some good stuff. And also good news. I hope issues that I and others are facing with the refining of masks will also be addressed in this patch. On1 has a lot to live up to now that LR's AI masking seems to be so sophisticated.

You know , I do a lot of local masking and I never felt I needed totally automatic masking. I liked the control and ease of the old AI automask and usually got great results. I suspect the new masking will improve as will the automatic keywording. I had been planning to get and use Excire and perhaps now I will wait.

For now I am happy with the tools I have, now that the old quickmask is back. We will see if the program works better after this "point" release

By the way has anyone tried the Akvis masking plug-in?

I viewed the YouTube video linked above. Among the fix bullets, I saw nothing that acknowledged the various non-GPU related crashing issues spread throughout the forum.

Agree with you all, that it is nice to experience ON1 being receptive to users and buyers complaints -> suggestions and reintroduce the missed previous implementation of the Quick Mask.

I seconded this, all ready as I was showcasing some, for ME to see, quirks and discrepancies with how the first iteration of PhotoRaw 2023 has come out to us all. Mainly I am between bewildered and annoyed, that against all the hype around presenting the AI Adaptive Presets (all containing AI masks), ON1 has from start on only presented us with a mear 8 sub-cathegories hidden behind the flamboyant Carmoisine Red "AI" on Blue Circle top category button emblem...And furthermore, to my great bewilderness, I discovered when expecting instead to have these added to this 1st level category, that the with my purchase offered extra bonus AI adaptive Preset categories did however NOT adjoin the 8 existing!?

I have had a minor and on friendly terms dispute with David Tillett, who commented my lament this way: "It is normal that new preset categories created either by installing an extra set or by creating your own do not get merged in with standard categories that have been supplied as part of basic installation. That is why the bonus presets remain outside the standard group."

As ¹) I find, that though what David T. says may be the case, it at least to me, somewhat takes the whole idea of making a special first level preset category for AI Adaptive Presets [AI A.P's] made by On1 themselves, if the total number of these are staying at less than ten sub-categories as now. And if I have understood David correctly, will not get changed i.e. extended in numbers in other ways than newer iterations/versions of PR 2023 [and I guess the Effects 2023 plugin, when that is launched]
And as I expect most users have found out, the allredy from start introduced 'Bonus [Adaptive] Presets' downloadable as 3 zipp'ed *.ONPhoto-files – one with 'Bonus Landscape' and two with ekstra Portrait-categories – did during install, for me to see, strangely enough not merge with the existing AI A.P's at say 1st level preset position. Instead, as implied by David and was the case, just among users own and/or original ON1 handed over standard types of presets (If one consult the PR 2022 User Guide, on pg. 111 the list shows 21 initial built-in On1 preset categories from point of installation; almost 3× the available AI Ap's im PR 2023. – I will give them, that of cause you do get these original basic builtt-in ON1 presets with these – but you have paid substantially FOR AN UPGRADE, hmm?!

²) Continuing a few pages down in *.PDF-guide, a typical example can be seen of the number of presets included with the standard buit-in preset categories: in general more than 15(!) and in any case 10+ in comparison to the small number of (I've seen 5-9) actual presets within the now in PR 2023 built-in 8 AI AP's…

All this may boil down to simple preference and taste, I will agree.

    – And if so to be, that further ON1 delivered Adaptive presets with inherited AI masks will not join up to the few existing ones; since the AI AP's ARE MARKED on their button-picture with an ekstra theme silhouette to point them out as containing such presets, I for one would have lived fine without there being an 'AI' marked Topcategory at all!

If one was watching for instance Dan Harlachers presentation "A Sneak Peak at the Incredible AI Adaptive Presets", available on YouTube since 19th of September, it was deductable that ON1 have by now split a then existing "People" AI AP's 9 presets and put them in with a handfull new in the recent built-in two portrait categories: Outdoor — and Studio —.
David has admitted that in 1st PR 2023 iteration, there is, quote on quote "a bug in that new presets are not appearing in Manage Extras so currently not possible to create your own group for all extra AI presets"…

Allright, On1 should be given some slack to correct imperfections in the very first iteration of new software launched (I have invested in the whole package, including the plugin versions , too. So I hope and expect these – through the trial and error of ON1 PR 2023 – to come out for us later this month weeded out for the worst errors…!)
BUT I would so much more, than the actual "AI"-marked 1st level category have had ON1 letting us users totally decide to our own discretion and wants, how to distribute the AI AP's into [sub-]categories. The whole idea as it is now with the rather flamboyant advertising AI-top category, simply to me seems more like a bad disguised permotion stunt!! ;P

Like to hear other ON1 customers out there opinion on this…

bug fix "point" fix released. Hopefully it will smooth out problems. Glad to see old "AI mask" return. I have used it frequently over time with excellent results
