Weird AI masking result - borders
I'm getting these weird, wide, angular borders / halos in the mask resulting from Mask AI, which don't show until after the mask is applied (see pics). In my example, I have a reddish-brown dog catching a red ball on a green grass field - essentially just 3 colors present, should be easy for ANY intelligence to mask, AI or even me, right? I can select either grass or dog just fine with Mask AI, they turn appropriately blue - but when I actually use it to mask in a B&W conversion, it puts these wide borders on the mask. Feather doesn't matter, you'll see the examples have it at 0. I feel like I'm being brainless and missing a setting that's doing this. Am I doing wrong, or is this ON1? Unfortunately, this was the first (and only) example my friend ran when I was trying to get him to try ON1 from being a LR user, thinking v2023 was the one to do it with. And yes, this has happened on all pics I've tried so far (not many but some). My laptop has an nVidia RTX 2070 card with the latest drivers direct from nVivia, and this is with the 17.01 update to ON1 2023. Any ideas welcome - thanks. (example below)

It's a problem with current nvidia driver and certain nvidia cards. I have a 2070 super and have the same problem.
Yesterdays On1 Photo Raw 2023 update did solve tha black preview issue with no noise ai an tack sharp, but not this mask ai issue. You have still to revert to an older nvidia driver, for me with the nvidia 512.15 driver Photo Raw 2023 is usable with all it's features. Let's hope on1 solves this remaining issue with another update soon

I am still getting these very poor results from Super Select AI in 17.0.1.12965 (yesterday's update). I am using the latest NVIDIA Studio drivers (522.30) released on October 18th. I have an NVIDIA RTX 2070.
If it is an NVIDIA problem, hopefully an update will be coming soon from NVIDIA.
I am not a huge fan of Super Select AI anyhow. For the most part, I find the old Quick Mask does a much better job. That, and the Perfect Brush is a somewhat slower - but much better - job at doing masking.
I would guess that, by the time we get to Photo RAW 2023.5 or maybe Photo RAW 2024, Super Select AI will be refined enough that it will be a go-to tool.

I do not believe this is an issue with the Nvidia driver and is a problem with the AI mask itself. I see exactly the same issue with an Nvidia 3060Ti which didn't have the black screen issues reported by 20 series users. To rule out Nvidia drivers I also removed my Nvidia card from my desktop and attached my monitor directly to the motherboard to use the integrated intel CPU and intel drivers and still saw exactly the same behavior.

David, why not upload your image to a file sharing site and maybe people who don’t have those Windows drives can test it for you

it's definitely somewhat nvidia related, i have the same issue, but with driver 512.15 on my end this issue does not occur and ai mask is working fine. with recent drivers however i get the same bad mask ai results.
I still have to test 512.15 driver with yersterday's Photo Raw 2023 update. However with original release this was the case

ON1 says it's with SUPER cards... except mine isn't. My friend's isn't, it's a 970 or 1080. I'm going to rollback to 512.15 and will report back. If that doesn't fix it I'll post the pic.

So... updating to the newer 522.30 Studio doesn't help at all (not sure why ON1 only points to .25). Rolling back to 512.15 fixes it... mostly, but not working completely. There is *still* some kind of programmatical issue between the blue AI-Mask preview and the final mask it drops into the selected filter. Note between the dog's hind legs below - the blue pre-selected grass looks GREAT (as it did with the 522.25 & .30 drivers)... but that area goes missing from the final mask. Selecting the dog and inverting gives a really-good production-ready mask with zero tweaking, which is awesome. But Mask AI only finds the 2 areas, dog & grass - but they still don't add up to 100%! OK the ball is actually a 3rd object in Super-Select mode. but not in Mask AI within Effects/Local etc, and it has a similar disconnect between blue preview and the actual mask created. Also, Mask AI seems to be generally stuck in Paint Out mode regardless of the mode selected - is this correct? It's confusing what will actually happen using Mask AI between invert, Paint In, and Paint out - it feels inconsistent to me but I end up confusing myself as to what is expected.

Updating to nVidia 526.98 and the second ON1 update to 17.02 seems to work great now - AI Masking looks much better and ON1 has worked as expected so far, approaching the game-changing fast-workflow promised in the sales & demo videos: it took 3 seconds with 4 clicks to mask and turn ALL the grass B&W :)
As a long-time pre-RAW semi-local fanboy I'm sorry ON1 didn't hit this functionality at release. I know it turned one friend off instantly, now I have to beg them to forget and try again because I *know* this is exactly what they need in their life! 1 month to fix isn't horrible, it just seems that way in today's tech world. Perhaps next time ON1 can call the new one "release candidate" or "gamma" for existing customers who have the old one to fall back on, and broadly release the 1st or 2nd update when things seem smoother and tested in the wild.
