On1 Raw 2023 - Select None (Deselect) on Edit mode not working
AnsweredOn MAC - I can select all images on edit mode (CMD+A), but I can't deselect all (CMD+D), am I missing something?
This works on the "Browse" module, but no "Edit"
-
No, you are not missing anything. Edit mode is meant for working on one image at a time. If you were able to deselect all there would be no image for the editor to work with and it isn't designed to handle that situation.
You can open the Filmstrip then use the / key to deselect the currently selected photo assuming you have more than one selected in the Browser. You can also Command/Control-click on them to add or remove specific images from the selected set.

There is an issue with the thought process on this. Why would One Photo RAW developer allow anyone to "Select All" in the "Edit" module and not to Deselect ALL?
I selected all 300 images thinking I could change their rating (removing a color label ), and now I have to click one at a time. The workaround was to go back to the browse module and deselect.
I spend more time finding workarounds and issues with a solution than doing the work.

I have already explained it to you. You must have at least one image selected before you can go into the editor. It cannot deal with a selection of the zero. There is nothing to edit when there is a selection of zero.

Brian Lawson, try to do it yourself. You will see what I am talking about - this should not be allowed if the software can't handle a deselect (every photo editor software can take this essential task)
note: the image on pink is a bug that I am dealing with0 -
Alfredo, this has been explained TWICE already in this thread. YOU CANNOT DESELECT ALL in Edit. If you did that you would lose the image that you're currently editing.
Trying to select 300 images in Edit is forcing the module to do something it wasn't designed for. Going back to Browse to fix it is NOT a workaround, it's the proper procedure.

I suspect that the reason why Select All is available in Edit is for finishing touches such as exporting or printing completed edits, so part of the editing process.
It sounds as though you are expecting to use PhotoRAW in exactly the same way as another product when it has its own way of working. Edit mode is for editing and immediate post processing tasks such as changing rating or outputting, Browse is for managing images.
The university I worked for learned an expensive lesson when implementing a new student records system by trying to make it exactly the same as the systems it was replacing, ended up with lots of customisation that made it difficult to implement new releases as they became available and reduced the usefulness of the new system. So trying to make a new application behave in exactly the same way as the old one is just not worth it, learn what it is capable of and you will probably find ways to develop a workflow that meets your needs and which works with the application not against it.

Or, for Syncing the edits.

David Tillett, I agree with you; I work for a good 500 software company and do photography on the side (because it is a passion). I have used CaptureOne, LR, and Affinity, but I wanted something simpler.
From a user perspective, it should not take so many clicks back and forth to accomplish a simple task (regardless of the industry for which the software was developed). I am not saying the other solutions are better or worse.
I don't see On1 Raw having a large community outside this forum; perhaps very few people provide feedback to improve the product. However, I appreciate the responsiveness from everyone in helping me with the roadblocks I face in my workflow as I adapt to a different way of doing things, even though this new way is slowing me down (facts that can be proven when comparing Photo Raw vs. LR and others). On1 has a sweet spot but is not flawless.I am giving this software an opportunity as a new user. I hope On1 does listen to the user base and keeps up with the competition. Like anything else, it is just one click to leave.

Really? In addition to this forum, which is very active, there is a forum on On1 Plus, as well as two user groups on Facebook.
I have also found the Support Staff to be prompt in responding to questions and feedback submitted directly to them, and let’s not forget the Photo Raw project where users can submit and vote on new suggestions.
While we may not always agree with how the program works, On1 do indeed listen to feedback from their users. A recent example was their very quick response to requests to bring back the AI Mask. Other examples in years past include the clone tool, and so on ….
I’d suggest it’s holding its own quite well for a program that arguably has but a fraction of the resources of Adobe.
