Despite using On1 Photo Raw since some years now, and have read the user guide and posts on this forum, it is still not clear to me how the sidecar files work.
Here is my situation
Preferences: Save ON1 sidecar files checked. There is no option about xmp files.
My photos and videos all have keywords.
Edited RAW photos and videos all have both .ON1 and .xmp sidecar files.
Jpeg photos some have .ON1 file, none have .xmp file.
My questions are:
1) Since all my JPEG photos have keywords but none have .xmp sidecar file, I assume that the keywords are automatically embedded in the photo. If so, why do we have the option in the Photo menu to embed the metadata?
2) Why some JPEG have .ON1 sidecar files and others no? Is the .on1 file created only if the photo is edited?
3) Why RAW photos and videos have both .on1 and .xmp files? Was it not enough to have only the .xmp? Perhaps for RAW photos the .on1 is used to store the editing and the .xmp is used to store the metadata (keywords, location et.)?
I would be grateful if someone could clarify.
