Using 2022 and 2023 concurrently

I have a fairly stable PR2022 that I edit on. I just installed 2023, which I suspect will be updated in the not too distant future to kill some bugs and enhance performance and stability.

I know there is a database. Is there a separate database for each version or a common database used by all versions? If I edit an image  in 2023 and reedit in 2022, or vice versa does it screw up the database - it would seem that 2023 images might not play well if then reedited in 2022. Correct or not?

    There are separate databases H version of the software however, the editor stored in be on one side cart miles also so if you make a change and 23, then go back to 22 it will tell you that it can’t work with those edits.

    So, yes, there are two separate databases, but there is only one sidecar per photo. If you edit in 2023, that will add edits to that sidecar that 2022 won't be able to read which will then make it un-editable in 2022. That means it will only be editable in 2023 from that point on even if you were to uninstall 2023. (Unless of course you delete all 2023 edits and start over with 2022)

    I may elect to primarily edit in 2022 until the issues with 2023 sort out. Any word yet whether the disappearing edits bug has finally been squashed in 2023?

    I've been playing with editing the same image in both versions. Here is what I've found.

    You can edit in 2022 once edits have been made in 2023. You will not see any 2023 edits in 2022. Edits made in 2022 after editing in 2023 are not seen in 2023. There is a version entry in the .on1 file which identifies the last version of the program that edited the image and therefore saved the sidecar file.

    To me this suggests that the edits you see in each version are coming from the internal edits database rather than the .on1 sidecar file.

    This is all on a single machine. I imagine things get even more complicated when multiple computers are used to edit the same image. Internal databases could get out of sync pretty quickly.

    Bottom line is, once you've worked on an image in a newer version, you probably shouldn't try going back to an earlier version of the program even if it does appear to work.

    do you know if any editing carried out in 2022 (or earlier) version will be preserved if I run the On sidecar with 2023 version?

    I'm not sure I understand your question Andrea, sorry.

    If you made edits to a photo in the 2022 version of the program those edits will be seen by the 2023 version. Is this what you wanted to know?
