Ian, Better results might be achieved if you uploaded the raw file to drop box.

First adjusted overall tone then noise, second decided on three areas to separate in local:1) slightly darkened sky and increase saturation, 2) increased slighly the huge wave and mist exposure, haze, and structure, 3) increased slightly structure and exposure on rocks and water. Created a custom vignette highlighting the center rock and hugs wave.

Thanks Peter for all your help. I have been struggling with the spray and sky on the fringes of the wave.

Here is a link to the raw file.

Ian, upload your RAW to WeTransfer and post the resulting link here. It's the easiest way to share an image.

Also, you shouldn't post your email on a public forum. I suggest you edit that post and remove it.

For me the point of interest is of course the rock and the immediate contact of the wave to the rock.  Below is my effort.   some basic developing, then sunshine on the rock.  very light big softy vignette.  I then tried to darken the sky - not too much effort there - working it a bit more I'm sure you could get the darker sky a bot closer to the waves.  I also tried to lift some of the dark colours  little in the foreground but using a lumen mask in adjustments, inverting and raising the exposure very slightly.  I also cropped it in a tiny bit from the left, I thought that might give it a bit more 'punch'

Here is my version. Instead of trying to edit the sky, I decided just replacing it would blend better. Even still, the hardest part was masking around the waves. I started with a luminosity mask and adjusted that as best I could, then went back and forth between Masking brush and Refine brush until it looked blended.

Past that I upped the contrast and saturation in develop, added dynamic contrast, sunshine and big softy vignette.

Thank you so much for your edits and tips Peter,Rick and WH. The results are fantastic.

For me the issue is still the masking of the spray, especially the fringes and the subtle right hand mid section.

Now that I have seen what can be achieved, I will keep experimenting until I can get a similar result.
