New PC, dealing with Catalog and presets
Hi, Just upgraded to a new desktop PC and have reinstalled 2023. Is there a quick way of moving the presets from the old drive to the new machine without having to install each one all over again? I've had the foresight to keep the onpreset files in a separate folder from all the loyalty and free one collected since 2018 but it would take a while to install them one at a time. Also can the catalog folder be moved from drive to drive or does it need to be rebuilt from scratch?
Many thanks
David

On your old machine use the Backup feature. Move the .onbackup file to the new machine and use the Restore command.

Thanks very much Brian, that should save a lot of time. Just to complicate matters what happens if the catalog location has changed from the old to new machine? Will the whole restore fail or just that element. I could rename the drive letter to match the old location if that helps?

The whole point of the catalog is to maintain a list of the locations of your photos. If that location is different now, I don't see the old catalog being much use. I would suggest that you get your new PC organized with your photos and sidecars in their new location and build a new catalog.
There is a database as well which is holding all of your edits. That is also going to have to rebuild itself from the sidecars if the photo locations have changed.

Hi Rick, yes I had come to that conclusion re the catalog. What about the presets? can they be copied from one location to another? Is the backup and restore function able to be of assistance or is it just great if you are working on the same machine. I have seen a youtube video demonstrating how you can export and then import the presets from one machine to another.

As Brian suggested, the backup should move everything else. I haven't tried it myself, you'll just have to give it a shot and see how it goes. If it misses anything, you can still fix it manually.
