    Great answers

It sounds as though the preset file extension is linked to Portrait, probably because last On 1 app installed. Not sure of Windows method but on Mac you can right click on file and the use Open With to use correct app.

Unfortunately with Windows, I don't have the 'Open With' option.  Do you think I should reinstall Effects so the presets link to that extension?  Or can I move the files successfully from Portrait to Effects?

Windows also allows you to choose. Which program do you use to open a file. I don’t remember the command off the top of my head but it’s in the info dialog somewhere. You can also launch Effects and go to the extensions manager and then load them through there.

If you right click on the file name another box will open.  Scroll down and look for "open with".  If your program isn't showing in the list, select "choose another program" at the bottom.

Brian, I haven't followed your link yet, but I will.

Sam, I don't have that option.  This is what shows when I right-click the file name.  (I'm using Windows11 on a new computer):

In Win 11, right click and select properties or click the 3 dots and select properties. Once opened, you'll see a place to change the default application.

Rick, I have tried everything.  Nowhere in the General pop-up box is there an option to 'Open with' anything.

I never said anything about 'open with'. Re-read the above post.

Also, Post some screen shots so we can see what you see.

Pat, Properties is where you need to go. Look at Rick's screenshot above and you'll see it is the Properties window. This isn't that hard and is something users of both OSes have to do on a regular basis.

Thanks.  Rick, moot point - your second arrow points to 'open with:  OnOne Photo Raw'. ....and I am not computer illiterate - I think the problem was that I had not unzipped the file. This time it worked.

All of your help is appreciated.

FWIW, it does not matter which ON1 program is used to install Extras. All ON1 programs share the same Extras 202x folder so no matter which program installs them, all programs will see them.

I tested this by making sure that ON1 Photo RAW 2023 was set for the default program to open the .onpreset files. I then opened one of them using ON1 Effects 2023. After the installer finished running I Quit Effects and launched PR 2023 and they were there.

Of course installing with a different default program does leave that program running after the installation but that's not a big deal. Quit it and launch PR and you're in business.
