Replace External Hard Drive & Preview Question
AnsweredI think I know what to do here but wanted to run it through the Community. My external enclosure destroyed three of my drives at once, thankfully I have 1 additional backup offsite. I will be replacing the drives and of course the enclosure. My photos are in a catalog so I assume I need to delete (PerfectBrowseCache). Restart ON1 and rebuild the database once the photos are replaced.
One final question. I use two different preview sizes; Standard for the photos on my laptop and Medium for the photos on my external had drive. Every year I move a year of photos from my laptop to my external drive. What is the best way to "change" the preview setting? I think I should remove the catalog folder, for the year being moved, manually move the folder and then it will recalculate the previews. I assume my old "standard" previews will eventually delete.
My setup:
- MacBook Pro (M1 Pro)
- Using ON1 Database
- Laptop - 2 years of photos
- External Drive - has 50K or more of images (approximately 20 years of photos)
- PerfectBrowseCache - on laptop
- Edition - ON1 2023
As always, thank you,
Jamie

The previews are stored in the database on each PC. Moving the photos does not move the preview with it. When you move a photo to the PC, the PC will create it's own preview depending on whatever settings you've defined.

Also, you should not have to delete the perfect brows cache. If your replacement drive has exactly the same structure as what it is. replacing your system will never know the difference.

Brian, thank you very much! The new SSD drive mapped perfectly to the database. A bit scary having three or my drives go down but looks like I'm making it back.

Glad to hear it Jamie.
