Does ON1 2023 Focus Stacking compensate/adjust for focus breathing?
AnsweredAbout to use ON1 2023 Focus Stacking and wondering if it compensates/adjusts each frame for focus breathing? Thanks

No idea what focus breathing is. Everything we know about ON1's focus stacking is in the user guide starting on page 194. If you read through that section, then you'll know as much as the rest of us. You might see something there similar to what you're looking for.
If you need a more accurate answer, you'll have to contact tech support and ask them.

When the focal point changes with each exposure the depth of field also changes every so slightly. That is focus breathing.

Rick and Brian, I've read through the user guide and it does not address focus breathing, which I understand is change in focal length (magnification etc.) as your focal distance changes whi.ch is more of an issue than depth of field changes.
If you have focus breathing, which most lenses do, then stacking the images with different magnifications could creat image issues.

I should have said focal length and, sorry. You’ll have to ask the support folks about this.

From Stevie in Support (after some clarifications)
"We compensate for changes in the magnifications in our focus stacking."

Thanks, that's good to know.

You're welcome Brian... and YES! that is good news if indeed it is true (in my initial interactions with support, magnification was confused with depth of field). Now to shoot some images and try it out :)

Both of them get changed with the change in focus. That's the mistake I made. It is the magnification that is more important as you've noted as the subject's image size changes with each photo. Without compensation things don't align correctly.

Exactly!
