Long delay between photos in Edit
Since installing On1 2023, I get a long pause seen in progress bar before I can do anything with the photo, when clicking between photos. Any idea how to resolve this? I find this painfully slow and for me unusable. Thanks!!

Which Mac are you running and which OS?
Photo RAW 2023 and its plug-ins introduced new AI masking features. The image is evaluated by the AI so the masks can be created before the RAW data has even been assembled into a viewable image. This takes some time and is why you see the progress bar as the file is being opened. There is nothing we can to about it except faster hardware.

If the image has been previously edited with NoNoise AI and/or TackSharp AI, those are also done during file loading on the RAW data and they add to the opening time.

Thanks Brian. I have an older Classic Mac Pro 2010, but pretty "tricked out". Dual processor with 12 cores, 96 meg of memory and RX 580 8 gig GPU. I'm running Monterey. It currently takes about 60-90 seconds to wait to edit a photo. Now I'm wondering if I'd be better off back on On1 2021 which is where I last upgraded from. I'm really not in a position to buy a new M2 Mac. Your explanation makes sense based on what I'm experiencing. I really don't have a need for the automated masking features. Sure wish there was a setting to turn these off and on. Thanks for your help and quick response.

Hi
I am finding the latest version horrendously slow (2018 mac mini 32Gb ram, fast ssd). Because of the bug that will not allow me to use my external GPU, the software is becoming unusable.

Ok, I did a little more testing and it seems the biggest delay is due to Tack Sharp and/or NoNoise AI. If TS and NN are not done on the images, it's only a second or two delay stepping thru images in edit. This is much more manageable. I'll just need to change my workflow to ONLY use TS/NN as a final editing step.

This is to be expected Steve. As I explained above both NoNoise and Tack Sharp are applied when the file is being opened, before it is even demosaiced into viewable RGB image.
This is also why you should be using them first in your editing. You want to get rid of the noise before the raw data is assembled into the image and editing gets a chance to start making it worse.

I have to ask myself if it makes that much difference applying NN and TS before demosaicing. Topaz Sharpen AI works from a TIFF and I find the result actually superior to TS.

I also find that Topaz Sharpen gives much better results. NN and TS give far too many strange effects.
