You haven't given us enough information to start troubleshooting this.
Which iMac exactly are you running?
Which OS version?
What are your system specs?
Which version of which ON1 program are you running?

Thank you, now I know where to start. 😀
I'm going to start with the easy one first. Other users have reported problems seeing the Preset previews. There have been a couple other threads on this subject in the past couple of days. This one covers it best. https://on1help.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/13127371871885 There is a bug that support has passed to the engineers.
Which version did you come from? Was it the previous 2023 or an earlier version?
Do you use Catalogs? The frequent fan spinning up could be due to the program working through your cataloged images looking to add the AI Keywords to them. That happens in the background and gets throttled back when you are actively using the program.
Crashing… The first thing to try is Delete Settings File. You won't be able to do this if the program crashed the last time it was run. You have to clear the crash report dialog before trying the Delete Settings function. If it did crash on the previous run, relaunch the program, clear the crash report dialog, then immediately Quit the program so it launches normally the next time. Now you can press the Shift key and do the Delete Settings.
You might also want to consider upgrading your OS. While OS 11 is listed as being supported OS 12 is the recommended minimum. ON1 PHOTO RAW 2023 Technical Requirements
