importing png file saves as 16 bit

Hi

I want to keep them as 8 bit files.

I open a 8 bits PNG file do something and saves it , but it becomes much bigger because it is 16 bits... I want to keep it 8 bits.

in preferences files it gives only jpeg, tiff or psd options to save as 8 bits

  Those are your only options. There isn't any way to control the bit-depth of the png files.

  You should contact tech support and ask if this is an oversight or if there is a reason for them being 16-bit only.
