AI Mask suddenly not working

When using the AI masking feature, super select AI, or the drop down masking dialougue under the mask area in effects  the red/blue on screen overlay feature shows what areas will be masked but does not apply when clicked and nothing shows in the thumbnail preview. Seems to have worked previously and then decided to stop. 2021 M1 Apple Mac mini / Big Sur. Would really like to resolve this issue to avoid having to cancel and return to Lightroom.

  The first step whenever the program starts misbehaving is to Delete Settings.

  The Knowledge Base has an article on more troubleshooting steps you can try if Delete Settings does not work.
