Manual Ver AI Auto for Whites or Blacks
Not a problem as can adjust but when I use AI Auto then hold down the J key the Blacks especially always are showing no info sometimes the whites are shown blowing out, easy fix manually but just wonder if this should be happening? Thankyou, Russ.

I think this is going to depend upon the individual photo and possibly the camera and its RAW file format. When I use AI Auto I normally have to pull up on the Blacks slider as for my photos I get far too much black that has been pushed off the left side of the histogram.
I just tried this on one of my photos and I am getting underexposed indicators with the J key pressed. AI Auto is the only thing I've done.

As I said can be fixed but thought AI was the bees knees lol

Most people make the mistake of thinking any AI is going to give them exactly the results they want with a click of a button. It just doesn't work that way. For one thing, what if my expectations are different than someone else's? One of us is guaranteed to be disappointed.
AI Auto tries to match what the camera's processor would produce when saving a jpeg. Think of it as a starting point, not the destination.

I thought that's what AI Match was for?
AI Auto *generally* drives things in the right direction but way too far for my tastes. I almost always pull the auto level slider back to around 50 or 60%. For my tastes, I'm generally looking for an "AI" that would put the image somewhere between AI Match and AI Auto.
Another thing I'll point out that used to bite me reasonably often... Selecting the AI Auto button changes not only the tone settings but also the color settings, such as Vibrance, Saturation, etc. But if I don't like the AI Auto choices and instead switch back to manual by pressing the "Manual" button, it will reset the changes it made to the Tone settings, but it does not reset any changes it made to the Color settings.

You're right Chay, I get those 2 backwards frequently. My bad. Auto AI is the program attempting to come up with its own version of what is best for that image. Like I told Russell, you can't think of it as one click and you're done. It's more of a 1 click to get a good starting point kind of thing.
Rather than clicking the Manual button which does not reset Color settings as you've noted, use the Undo command. It will return everything to where it was before the Auto AI button was clicked.
