Vulcan driver

Sunil, Dell is notorious for using off the shelf components in their systems but then they add their own custom chips which require custom drivers for those off the shelf parts like GPUs. Try using the Dell Update program to check for and install new drivers.

Martyn, new feature require newer hardware. This is a continual battle for users. The company publishes the specs for each new update so we can check to see if our systems can handle it. It isn't the company's fault when some one leaps into the new update before looking to see if their system can handle it.

For everyone involved, the Vulkan libraries are part of the video card/GPU drivers. Updates for your GPU will include the latest version it supports.

I did uninstall the Nividia driver and I also tried an older version as well as the latest. And it worked fine in 2023.1. The resize plugin gives the same error with the latest version. The Nividia Vulkan driver is V1.3.1 and that is what the log says. They said they are working on it. I was so looking forward to using all the new features. I guess eventually I will be able to do so.

I am also having the same problem and ON1 need to realise that not every user has a high spec recent computer running the program.

Perhaps, after a long time, I'll be parting company with ON1.

Still don't know what I am trying to find. I went to NVidia website and searched up Vulcan. The word didn't come up but it brought up many links. Not sure what I am looking for.

I have opened a support ticket and have attached Microsoft System Information summary of my computer. Maybe that will help resolve the issue.

    Thanks.

You don't need to search up Vulcan, just download the latest driver as the article explains. There is no garantee that Dell has the latest driver, you must get it from Nvidia.

The easiest way is to use Geforce experience. It will make sure you have the latest driver.

Tried that driver but isn't compatible with my computer. Tried other drivers too, including GEForce Experience and GEForce Game Ready driver but they aren't compatible.

I've wasted a good two hours on this issue but no luck. I wish I hadn't upgraded. At least it was working before.

You already have a ticket in. You'll have to wait for ON1's response.

"ON1 need to realise that not every user has a high spec recent computer running the program."

Probably truer to say you need to realise that if you want software that can what Photo Raw does, it needs a computer it can run on, Martyn.

As Brian points out, it's not as if doesn't ON1 publish the minimum system specs - it's not their fault you didn't check them before installing...

Cody Armstrong of ON1tech support sent me this link that solved the problem. Thanks Cody.

Only issue now I have is ON1 runs very slow now. From opening the program to making a selection in the Edit mode, it is slow as molasses.

I think a new computer with newer/powerful CPU, a minimum of 32 GB RAM along with a very fast video driver is required to run this new version satisfactorily. I'll give it a fair spin in the next few days but if the speed still bothers me, I'll uninstall it and reinstall the older version until I buy a new computer or until the program is tweaked so it can run on 2-3 year older machine.

Thanks to all for your help.

Sunil, you never said you had intel graphics. No wonder nvidia didn't help.

As for running slow, likely that same intel GPU causing the problem.

    Sunil,

You may need to go through the steps to configure Windows to enhance the performance of the video drivers.  There is a detailed article that will walk you through it.

I am also getting the Vulkan V1.1 message. This is the first time I have had issues with an upgrade and now On1 does not run. I have a compatible Nividia graphics card. I have updated to the latest and greatest Nvidia driver which has Vulkan V1.3. I have reinstalled ON1 again and still get the message. I guess I will contact tech support.

I also have the configuration set to use the Nvidia graphics processor as the default.

I'm also having the same 'Vulkan V1.1 required' message after updating to PhotoRAW 2023.5. I was able to run 2023.1 without any error. I reverted back to 2023.1 and it still runs OK.

Was there a change in system requirements between 2023.1 and 2023.5?

My laptop has an integrated Iris Xe GPU, not optimal but does work at least until now. I'm running the latest OEM(LG) GPU driver but is old compared to Intel's latest. I'll probably end up trying to update drivers but wanted to run down any other potential solutions first.

This is an excerpt from the system log:

    2023-05-31 20:46:56 ON1 - PLMainWindow initializeVulkan>
    2023-05-31 20:46:56 ON1 - PLMainWindow initializeVulkan>
2023-05-31 20:46:56 ON1* - validation layer:  "ReadDataFilesInRegistry: Registry lookup failed to get layer manifest files."

Running the shell command vulkaninfo reports v1.2 but interestingly enough has the same warning as the log file.

WARNING: [Loader Message] Code 0 : ReadDataFilesInRegistry: Registry lookup failed to get layer manifest files.

As far as I know there were no changes in system requirements from 2023.1 to 2023.5. I looked up the Iris specs on Intel's site yesterday and it is fully compatible up to Vulkan 1.4.

You should probably talk to tech support about this.

I have started a support ticket and they have acknowledged that some users are experiencing this issue and there is no fix as of yet. Anyone should contact them with their info. They told me to go back to 2023.1 unit they get a fix.

    Thanks for the update.

One fella on Facebook said he had to remove the current driver and reinstall it. After that the error went away.

If you know how, it's worth a try.

I also have a ticket submitted to support. Suggestion was to update gpu drivers. I did a re-install of my current driver. Same result: 2023.1 works, 2023.5 gives the Vulkan error. Brian, Rick, Alan, thanks for the feedback.

I had the "missing Vulkan API error" right after installation of PR 2023.5  on my old HPZ240 Workstation, with an INTEL HD Graphics 530 integrated vdeo card: pretty old, but stil working, up to 2023.1 release.

Following all of your hints and suggestions (and digging some more) I found this download link from INTEL Support Web Site:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/762755/intel-6th-10th-gen-processor-graphics-windows.html

Dated 12/29/2022, apparently it's the "End of Life"  driver release for older products: once installed, it fixed my problem for good. Hope it helps!
