AI based face enhancement - ON1 should acquire existing tech through partnership
I appreciate that the ON1 development team is working hard to stay competitive with other products and surpass them when practical. For AI based face enhancement, however, other companies have a significant head start. The very latest ON1 release with Resize > Face Recovery is a step in the right direction, but even the free-to-use product Picwish generates very noticeably better results. Not perfect, but results are more 'believable' when the person viewing really knows the original subject. Mouth shape, teeth size, teeth number and position, eye shape, hair details, and wrinkles are all important.
I don't know how much of results are the recovery/regenerate routines themselves, or the training database fed into such routines. I don't know whether large portions of code are open-source nor do I know licensing costs/restrictions. I think ON1 might be able to surge ahead if they could acquire AI technology through partnership with existing firms who are further along than ON1.

A good thought, but I am not sure it is so easily done. A competitor is not likely to want to help ON1 improve its product. And, even if they did, the cost could be prohibitive. Further, if the supplier makes enhancements, does ON1 have to pay again for those? And then there is the ongoing dependency on one or more other companies. Not a good business position to be in. Finally there is the loss of knowledge/expertise that could be gained by ON1 doing the work themselves. This could be applied to other AI features. Not having this in-house would lead to more dependency on others for future enhancements.
