The symbol means the file can't be read. That could be because of an access problem, incompatibility or corruption.

If you're using catalogs, it could be the preview that flashes, but the file itself couldn't be found. Are you able to open that same file if you move it internally first?

Which camera? Just because it's a CR3, that doesn't mean it's automatically supported - no Canon R8 on this list, for example:

    https://on1help.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/9362275532045-Supported-File-Types-and-Camera-Models-for-ON1-Photo-RAW-2023-5

Note also that sRAW and mRAW are not supported (although I'm not sure those formats are available on newer cameras.).

Camera is Canon R7 and R7 files on other drives are read by On1. I'm not using catalogs at all either on this drive or other drives. I have a number of different folders on this drive and On1 will not read any of them in edit but I can see all in browse. Also they open in LR, Luminar and Affinity with no problem???

When I move a file in Windows Explorer to another location and then try to navigate to it in On1, it doesn't appear?

Yes, it should appear if it's a recognised file.

What if you close ON1 then right click the file and select Open with Photo Raw? If that doesn't work, there's something off about the file.

I shoot with an R7 myself (C-RAW files, too) and they open without issue - so as Rick avers, it sounds like a file (or perhaps more likely, a file location) problem, rather than a Photo RAW problem.

My R7 files/folders are on the same SSD as the programme, but with that said, I have files from lots of other different cameras on external drives, and Photo RAW deals with them seamlessly.

We can clear up the file is the problem vs its location is the problem if you'll make one of them available for download so we can try opening them for ourselves. If we can open it, it isn't the file.

The location issue can be tested by copying a file you are able to open to the location where the problem files are located. If you can open it from there, it isn't the location causing the problem.

One thing you should try is the Delete Settings File function.

Everyone, thanks very much for the suggestions but so far no dice...Rick, I went to windows explorer, right clicked and said open with On1 with same result. Brian, I moved a file to a different drive and tried to open...same result. I agree now that it may be something in the file that's keeping On1 from opening but the file opens fine in LR, Affinity Photo and Luminar so I'm really puzzled.

Rick, I did as you suggested and did the Delete Settings File function with same result....BUT...initially a screen popped up " The memory cache location C:Users\larryglass\app data\roaming\On1\On1 Photo Raw 2019 doesn't exist. Default location is going to be used". All files on other drives continue to be accessable? If you can tell me how to make a file from this drive accessable to the forum I will do it. Thanks again for all the help.

"I agree now that it may be something in the file that's keeping On1 from opening"

Make it available, Lawrence - let's see what happens on someone else's machine.

Upload a problematic CR3 to a web file sharing service such as Dropbox or WeTransfer the post the download link here.

Lawrence, your next step is to try Resetting the program. This will clear your Catalogs, Albums, Extras, etc. Basically everything except the edits and metadata changes you've already made. It returns the program to the same state as when it was first installed. After that you'll need to talk to tech support unless anyone else has some more ideas.

Keith, what version of On1 are you running? Support says Canon R7 files not opening in On1 2022(which I'm running) is a known bug and they've stopped supporting On1 2022 so my only option is to upgrade. Larry

Never noticed that you were on 2022. I'm on 2023, like Brian.

Your file is a C-RAW. Apparently - if "Adam2" is right (his suggestion would certainly explain your experience) - 2022 supported uncompressed R7 CR3 files, but not C-RAW.
