On1 won't use xmp files for pics already edited

The program automatically pairs the image files with the .xmp files based on the file name. Your problem is that the edits are not stored in the .xmp files. That holds only metadata. It is the .on1 files which hold both edits and metadata changes.

Do you run daily backups? If so, you can restore the missing .on1 files and you should be back in business.

Thanks for the answer, I also have replaced the .on1 files in the directory, so for every x.orf file there is a x.xmp and a x.on1.

That should bring back your edits. If you don't see them there are two possibilities:

    1) The edits are there but the program isn't recognizing them for some reason. In some cases you can open the file in the Editor and bring them back. You can also open the .on1 file in a text editor and look to see if they are still there. At the top of the file you'll see a bunch of ascii stuff which is the metadata for the file. Below that there will be a bunch of random looking gobbledy gook. That is the binary editing data being translated into meaningless text. If you see that the edits are there. If not they are gone and you'll have to restore from an earlier backup if possible.

    2) They're simply gone as described above.

The on1 files aren't empty, I checked with Wordpad but if I click on any of them it opens the whole directory and the pics aren't edited, so they' re probably gone. Honestly, it looks like a big flaw of the sw.
