Treat RAW+JPG Pairs as a single photo
Hi,
It appears RAW+JPG pairs are not being treated as a single photo. This only seems to be happening recently with photos taken this year. Not sure if it is a PR2023 issue. I've deleted PR settings by holding down the shift key when starting PR. I've ticked and unticked the Treat option in preferences and also checked the Group RAW plus JPG in the file menu to no avail.
It happens which ever camera I use.
What is odd is that it does treat RAW+JPG pairs in older folders (before May 2023) are shown as a single photo. If I undo the treat or group option they are shown as separate photos.
Anything from May 2023 onwards shows RAW + JPG pairs as separate photos regardless of the setting. Screen shot attached

There is no control over how that works.
I would try deleting the settings file then check it again, but if that doesn't help you'll need to contact ON1 support. Both links below.

If you contact ON1, make sure you mention that settings are already deleted or that will be their first suggestion.

Thanks, I deleted the settings file but no change. Since my original post I've now noticed that the treat as single file works in the same folder for some RAW + JPG pair but not others. I can see no apparent difference between the pairing the works and the pairing that doesn't.
I have contacted tech support and sent them example files.

Hi,
i do have the exact same behavior with PR 2023.5.
Photos taken before may 2023 are correctly paired, photos taken after may 2023 are not paired.No Problem before Upgrade from 2023.1 to 2023.5.
Unfortunately i have no 2023.1 Installer Image so i must go back to Version 2022.5, which handles pairs correctly.
I have also raised a support request, but no usable result up to now.Wolfgang

Weighing in as experiencing same issue, though I never had 2023.1 installed. I hope that a fix comes out soon. When functionality that I rely on is lost after an "update" it is particularly painful!

Appears PR2024 did NOT fix this bug. RAW+JPG are NOT grouped for Panasonic RAW files.

I've not imported many photos since 2024 was released but they seem paired up OK.
There appears no rhyme or reason for some photos not pairing that were imported into 2023.5. I've got some photos in a folder where the RAW+JPG are paired together and others where the RAW and JPG are showing as separate photos. All taken with same camera and lens.
I created a support request in June 2023 and they raised a ticket but didn't have a immediate fix.
Maybe you could raise it with support.

Support and the software engineers are aware of the problem. Right now they have higher priority problems that they’re trying to fix. We don’t have that kind of pull to request them to do anything.

Thank you for letting us know that we are being heard, Brian. I will say that "features" that perpetually don't work are toxic to trust of software. I have supported this product for many, many years to have a high-quality alternative to paying the recurring Adobe tax. The tax is not very different than On1 cost, so it is a personal statement by me to support On1. But I just started using my Lightroom 5 again because the speed and functionality, particularly for sorting thousands of images (all RAW+JPEG pairs), is notably better in LR5(!!!) using a brand new MacBook Pro. I don't need anyone to explain the difference in approaches between the two products. What I want foremost is a product that works well for its essential functionality and is trustworthy. I am weary of flashy features but sub-par performance on the essentials.
As an enterprise developer of 25 years we could never get away with not having the essential functionality be rock-solid. I do not know why we all tolerate that in software now.

I've made this point repeatedly when they send out the surveys on where the company should focus their efforts. However, I recognize that they cannot sell an update that contains bug fixes only. People would howl and rightly so. They have to maintain some kind of cash flow to pay the engineers to make those fixes.

I had a savvy coworker who, when told to take a shortcut for expedience, would always ask, "If we don't make time to do it right now, when will we make time to fix it?" If the driver is corporate profit rather than good software, which also has to be adequately profitable to keep the enterprise going, they should let us know the vision from back in the early days is gone.
I believe that people are recognizing that trust, as embodied in reliability and predictability, is something that they traded for flashy features and they want trust back if we have to choose between the two. I choose trust and will pay for that.
This has been a good reminder for me of what I want to support with my money. I may fire up an old boot partition and compare results from the older versions, too. I used to love the results from the portrait module and now do not like them at all...

"If the driver is corporate profit rather than good software…" That is a logical fallacy called a "false dilemma". It assumes the two goals are mutually exclusive and there can be only one or the other.
I believe the company recognizes they cannot focus solely on profit and must have a good product to sell or it is all a big waste of time. They can do both, make good software and a profit. What they cannot do is take the time to squash every single bug in existence prior to releasing something they can sell so they can continue to pay their bills and salaries.
