Adding metadata in single view
AnsweredIn grid view it is possible to add relevant data to ipct fields etc. However when I open a single photo I see the basic data in the info-pane, however I cannot find a way to update the metadata. Is that correct or am I missing something ? (so when I am not in browse mode, but just open gup a single picture.
Thanks Ben

When you say open up do you mean, open it in the Editor? Metadata can only be edited while in the Browser.

Thanks Brian for your swift response.
When I am in the finder and choose a picture to "edit with" and then use on1, it opens up in edit mode. There I didn't find a way to edit my metadata. I understand that is, for this purpose, the wrong workflow (being used to it on my Mac since ages 😉). If I change my workflow to start from the browser in on1 to look for the picture I am indeed able to see all relevant metadata and add details as I like.
Based on your info I started digging deeper and discovered a preference setting to open not in edit but in browser mode. Tried that too, via finder, open with on1. This indeed opens the browser/grid view, but doesn't show/or "mark" the picture that I picked to use in on1. I have to browse again to the proper drive/folder etc. to look for that picture, and then add or edit.
So need to get rid of an old habit when I am working with on1.
Perhaps a suggestion to also in edit mode, be able to choose the "metadata"panel like you can with effects, layers, detail, local etc. Affinity Photo does that, or a tab next to the Nav/levels/Info buttons.
Thanks anyway for your response. I now know how to work if I want to add metadata.

I'm not the Mac guy and I don't know why you're starting in finder. The problem with your workflow is starting in finder and sending the photo to Photo Raw. If instead you simply opened Photo Raw first and used the Browser to find your photos, metadata and all of the other options would work as intended.

@ Rick,
Yes, I understood that, as you could read in my answer.
To put a little light for you: Lot’s of my pictures are in a separate database on1 cannot browse, the way on1 works. It can view, but I need to pick picture by picture to be able to edit in on1. For Pictures I have in folders ( about 15%) it works ok. So I have to see if I have to reconsider my preferred workflow.0 -
"Tried that too, via finder, open with on1…" That the file is not selected in the Browser when double-clicking in the Finder is a bug and it needs to be reported to tech support (again).
How to submit a problem to ON1 Tech Support
As for your idea to allow editing of the metadata in the Editor, the place to make suggestions like that is the ON1 Photo RAW Project. That is where the company looks for new ideas. However, I don't see them approving this one as it would mean a major change I the design of the program which would also affect the plug-ins.
"Lot’s of my pictures are in a separate database on1 cannot browse…" The only place ON1 cannot see is inside another program's library or database files. I'm assuming you are talking about Apple Photos Libraries. No, the program cannot see inside of them because of the type of file they are. If you can see the files in the Finder without using any special commands like View Package Contents… then Photo RAW can see them too.

Hello Brian,
Thanks again for taken the time to respond, and the pointers you gave.
I am indeed talking about Apple photo’s. The interesting thing is that I can view and scroll through my system-library, but of course can only select one picture at the time. It will open my Raw’s as tiff’s. Which is “normal” behavior doing it this way.
Thanks again.0 -
I recommend that you stop importing your photos into Apple Photos where the RAW files get locked up inside one of its Libraries. Just copy the RAW files from the SD card/camera directly to your Pictures folder where Photo RAW can see them. When you finish editing one you can use the Share feature to send it with its edits back to Apple Photos for sharing, etc.

Thanks Brian,
I am seriously thinking of changing my workflow this way.
Just hesitating (cold feet 😉) a bit being used to be able to round-tripping with Apple photo's in the past and some other software I used.
