The Case of the Missing Onphoto Files
I think I have figured out this one, but ask if anyone can replicate it.
When I edit a RAW (NEF) file, using Luminar Neo as a plug-in (maybe it happens with any other plug-in?), and save the file by going to the Browse module, it saves the file as an Onphoto file, as expected. I can find that file in Browse/Grid mode for re-editing.
However, whenever I edit using Luminar Neo as a plug-in, but RENAME the new layer created by that plug-in so I can remember it was a Luminar plug-in, then save it by going to the Browse module, that Onphoto file disappears, nowhere to be found. Those edits are lost.
Please let me know if this happens in identical or similar situations. Thanks.

Not sure I'm following the description properly. I don't have Luminar, so I opened Photo Raw and using Layer|Filters menu, sent the Layer to Topaz Photo AI. It came back as a new layer and I renamed that layer then went to Browse. The onphoto was there where it should be.
Where are you renaming? If it's in Photo Raw, you would already have the 2 layers which is what creates the onphoto, but if you're renaming in Luminar before going back to Photo Raw, maybe that's what's messing something up. If the Layer isn't returned, there is no need for the onphoto to be created. You would still have the .on1 sidecar with your edits though.

Rick, sounds like you tried exactly what I did, but used Topaz Photo AI instead.
Within On1 Photo Raw, I renamed the layer that was created by using Luminar Neo as a plug-in; I didn't rename the layer while in Luminar.

I DO have Luminar Neo, and will see if I can replicate Alan's workflow over this weekend.

Thanks, Ray!

Renaming layers shouldn't affect anything, Luminar or not. As long as you have 2 or more layers, you should have an onphoto file.

Agreed, Rick. But that’s not the case, at least for me.

It is working fine with me using the latest version of Lumina Neo.
I tested an image, by using the Filter menu to send it to Neo, replaced the sky, clicked Apply. Neon closed and the image was sent back to PR as a layer, which I then renamed and clicked the Done button. I did this rather than going straight to browse, so maybe that's where the error occurred.
Hope that helped.

Ray, that helps indeed. So there's something going on on my Mac, perhaps in the OS. I really appreciate you checking this out! - Alan

Alan, does it work for you when clicking the Done button?
What happens if you return to the Browser before renaming the Layer. Go to the Browser and right back into the Editor to get everything saved correctly then do the rename.

Brian, in response to your suggestion, I clicked the Done button after editing the Luminar Neo layer name and it worked three times in a row with three photos. I also tried returning to the Browser to save the photo immediately after editing the Luminar layer name, then returning to the Editor, and that worked as well too.
Fingers crossed that either of these methods will work for me and for others who happen to experience this same issue!
Thanks all!
