I just watched the sneak peek 2024 video and am quite impressed with what they've done. One of the issues I have with PS is their clunky UI which has made it nearly impossible for me to use it on an occasional basis. I've seen in some previous posts/comments about a price increase or subscription rate. I've been wanting to get away from Adobe for years because of the subscription but ON1 PR just hasn't been quite mature enough yet. I prefer to own and not “rent” software. I'm just a bit old school and not into the one world order propaganda that by 2030 we will own nothing and be happy about it.
As photographers many of us spend thousands of dollars on equipment every single year but then complain about a small price hike in the out of camera software that makes our photos come to life. As a retired software engineer I have a certain level of respect for what the team at ON1 does year in and year out with their product lines. It's not an easy task developing a piece of software used on many different platforms by a large user community.
I've never really understood the need for the plugins. I do own them all and keep them updated but I rarely use them. I guess they can be a time saver for some? Typically, I just export the file in PSD or TIFF format which is pretty much accepted by most photo editors and then just manually import that file to whatever app I'm going to use next in the workflow. I've just had way too many issues with the handoff of the photo using the plugins.
