ON1 extremely glitchy on ASUS ProArt Studiobook
AnsweredI got a new Asus ProArt last fall, and I have had no end of trouble with glitches and crashes. I know ON1 said they had some issues with NVidia around that time, and I have upgraded everything several times since, and even did a factory reset. The trouble really starts when I try to layer for composition. It worked ok for a while, but then would crash sometimes, and now, the top tool bar that contains File, Edit, etc. goes completely white and empty. And often crashes as soon as I open it. I just spent a long time on the phone with an ASUS rep, and he is saying that ON1 must be the problem, as otherwise it works fine. But I don't really do anything else on it other than internet and tether shooting with Capture 1. And I don't think it's ON1 by this time. Could it be a faulty chip? Does anyone else have this laptop??? Help!

Have you tried the Delete Settings function yet? It will often clear up random problems like you are experiencing.
When you say you have "upgraded everything several times…" that's kind of nebulous. Windows updates are notorious for rolling drivers back to whatever older version the update contains replacing anything newer you may have installed. Make sure you have installed the latest drivers for your system. Some laptop manufacturers want you to use their drivers so I can't say if you should be using the set from ASUS or NVIDIA. If one set doesn't perform to your satisfaction, try the other. Also be sure you have them configured properly for Photo RAW's use. The Knowledge Base's Troubleshooting section has several articles which you might find helpful including how to configure the video card drivers and some other performance and troubleshooting tips.

Hi Brian, thank you for the speedy response. Apologies for being nebulous (must be the Trekkie in me...). I have kept up on installing drivers from Nvidia and always update ASUS, and, of course, ON1. That's a great point on finding out which set to use--I'll follow up on that. I have done some configuring of the video card drivers as suggested, but will try again. The Delete Settings function is a new one, and I am definitely doing that. Thank you so much!

@Brian Lawson I just tried Delete Settings function. The first time no box came up for delete settings, just a normal program open. I closed it and tried again, twice. Both times, it flashed open and crashed.

The Submit a Problem dialog and the Delete Settings dialog conflict with each other. Each prevents the other from doing its job. You will have to clear the Submit a Problem dialog first by relaunching the program normally then _immediately_ quit the program before it crashes again. Then you will be able to launch the program with the Shift key pressed to do the Delete Settings.

It crashed as soon as I opened it, twice. The third time I just held down that shift key and got the window. Thanks! I am about to try layers in it and see what happens :)

Hi Brian Lawson, every time I have tried to layer in recent weeks, this happens: the top tool bar goes white. All I did this time was cut out the duck roughly, and add a sky. The tool bar went white. It doesn't come back.

I'm out of my league now as I'm more of a Mac guy these days. You'll have to work with tech support on this, sorry.

Brian Lawson but thank you so much for taking the time with me on this. I really do appreciate it :) I'll try with tech support again.

There were a couple other users reporting this problem a couple of weeks ago but I don't know if they got it resolved yet. It appears there is something going on with the program.
