AnsweredIs there any fix for this yet? Or? Nothing seems recent in posts here.

How is it not working for you? It works on my system.
Have you gone though the section in the User Guide that explains how to use the plug-in with Effects? It starts on page 13.

OK, it seems that the Extensions part of Photos might have a problem. The problem lies with any RAW file to the type ARW, CR2, and NEF. These are simply not handed off properly from Photos to ON1, or to Acorn for that matter, as I use that also. JPEGs seem to be OK. What I do note is that in ON1 the handed off file is a .psd. While in Akron it is a "Rendered Content (Long string or characters obviously the file ID in Photos) jpeg. In both cases edits seem to be saved OK. HEIF worked OK in Acorn, did NOT work in ON1. DNG files from my iPhone 14 Pro work OK in Acorn, do not work in ON1.
Edit with works in all cases.
Computer is MacMini M1, 16GB, Ventura 13.6, 512 GB internal. ON1 and Acorn are fresh installs, just like everything else.
Thing is, I really like using the Photos basic editing setup and find that the Automatic selection usually does a job that is good enough for my purposes. I often will send the file to Acorn, or other layer type editor, and make composites of various things. My old eyeballs really don't do well with RAW editors in general.
So, I think I will not waste further time on this use of Apple Photos and will try something else. Obviously ON1 Photo RAW 2024 is of interest. We shall see.
And thanks for putting up with something of a rant. And, no, I'm not going to bother with error things to Apple.
THX!

Did you read the User Guide where it talks about how all of this works? Because you are doing your preliminary editing in Photos, it will send a psd to Effects. That's the only way to get those edits into Effects. If you want to start in Photos this is what you have to live with.
IMO, you have things backwards. You purchased a full blown image editor to work with the half-assed editor Apple gives us. Forget Photos and just use Photo RAW to do your editing. Use it's Share feature to send edited copies back to Photos for use there.

FWIW, this is all Apple has to tell us about using extensions with Photos. It doesn't say anything about what type of file gets passed or if there is any way to control that. I still contend that if you have done any editing to a photo in Photos before passing it to a 3rd party program you're going to get an exported copy passed to that program.

First, let me say that the major reason I continue to try to work with ON1 software is this bulletin board. The kind of information and the usually very prompt responses are really appreciated.
But, this needs to be added to the discussion.
It seems to me that there are two general ways of using/approaching photos. One way is to take a single photo and make it the best photo that recalls the scene as it appeared to the picture taker. ON1 has clear roots in this type/style of photo editing.
The second way is to use a part of a photo as part of a larger creation that will have sometimes many pieces. This is what I call "compositing". This approach is from a graphic design way of creating something. Thus, editors like Adobe and others have things like rulers, various selection methods, and having a number of files/photos/elements open to use. This is the camp that I reside in for the most part. So, ON1 is missing some easier to use tools and NO rulers.
Third comment. If one is Mac all the way, with iPhone and iPad included, then trying to have the same item(s) on all three? iCloud just simply makes this difficult if you don't use Mac stuff at some point.
So, I am waiting to see what ON1 RAW 2024 will have to offer.
Again, thanks for the discussion and the help. It is really appreciated by this old dude.

Yes, Photo RAW is not the program to use for serious graphic design. It does have some tools that allow some design type work to be done but it isn't meant to be a program for a graphic designer. It is meant for photographers. Of course there's always some overlap there. We use the tools that best suites the task at hand, right?
