Think that denotes embedded preview in a catalog folder. Change catalog preview to medium or above and refresh previews.

Highlight all images you want to refresh. Go to Photo menu, and at the bottom of it there is an option to "refresh preview"

I think I understand; "flash" appears only on RAW photos which have not been edited or developed, jpg never have this badge even if I developed them.

    Not a big problem... Thanks

edit: I just see your post while finish mine. Tested your suggestion for 1 photo, no change after refresh its preview, so I guess my "non edited photos" is quite right...

Not quite, this has nothing to do with editing and applies to any RAW file, edited or not.

RAW photos have a JPG embedded within them (it is that JPG which your camera shows you on play back). When creating a catalog folder you have the option to use that JPG which is already embedded within your RAW file as the preview image, or, if you select another option such as medium or standard size then Photo Raw generates a separate (higher resolution) preview.

Like you though I don't know why they chose to use a flash badge to signify this, I just know that to get rid of the flash I changed my preview size from embedded and it vanished.

Are you guys are aware that you can just hover your mouse over any icon to see what it's for?

    Thanks both !

When I discovered this badge, I clicked-right on it, without any more info; I didn't have idea to just hover the mouse ! And for setting preferences, preview sizes, embedded, it's very confusing, more for people who don't speak/read english, user guide not so helpful in many cases.

    Hello, me again.

    1) My whole cataloged folder (created PR 2020-21-22-23 then seen in 2024) contains many sub-folders, I can change preview embedded for some 10 or 20 photos selected, but sometimes the "flash" remains one some, must select only one at the time, then preview change (or not!). So it is very long as I must check every sud-folder and its photos; can't find a way to "desembed" all the cataloged folder-subfolder-photos.

    2) Since 2024 update, I had more than 20 crashes (Mac Mini Sonoma, 16Go, PBC on external SSD), so I'm going mad. Maybe the best way should to erase this catalog and recreate a new one from my Mac Pictures folder ? But I'm afraid loosing all my edits, keywords, metadatas etc. And more efficient maybe, trash all my previous PR versions and reinstall 2024 from 0 ? If that, how may I keep all my previous edits, keywords, presets, extras gifted by ON1 from time to time in past years ?

    Thanks for your help !

    1) It isn't possible to remove the embedded jpeg from the RAW files. Don't forget that Photo RAW is a non-destructive editor which does not make changes to the original images. That would be a very destructive thing to do. 😉

It might take a while for the program to go through all the photos in those folders and their sub-folders. The flash badge will go away once that image has been properly rendered so the embedded jpeg is no longer needed for a preview.

    2) There are a ton of reports of the program constantly crashing on both Mac and Windows systems. Check some of them out. In particular look at those that mention the NDService folder.

All of your edits and metadata are in the .on1 sidecars. That's their purpose. They are how the program is able to recover your edits, etc. after performing a Reset of the program which does the same thing you are asking about only for just that year's data.

Check out the NDService articles and see if that doesn't help.

    Thanks,

First I'm surprised because all the "flash" icons appears in my RAW files (see capture screen on my first post), and I can remove them spending time by refresh preview...

Second, I searched NDService articles here as you suggested, sure there are many topics, but I can't find one for Mac, neither in my Mac Mini folder using Easyfind or scanning my library, app support etc, can't locate it... I've seen a path for Windows users but not for Mac.

This is not a Mac specific issue. The solutions the same for both operating systems. Yes the lightning badge will go away once the preview image has been created. You’re just speeding up the process by using refresh command. The program will get to it eventually.

Today I reset all and now new catalog is running (> end saturday ?!).

But I'd like to understand what means "NDServices" (goog search can't find correct suggestions for ON1 PR), and where this folder (?) is on my Mac, system, library, application support ... Sure something anybody knows, apart me !

NDService is the program's database. It stores your edits and all the metadata and I believe it is where the Catalog information goes when they are created. I can't be sure because the database is password protected so I can't actually examine what all is in it.

There is a copy of NDService for each version of ON1 Photo RAW 202x that you have installed. It is in

    ~/Library/Application Support/ON1/ON1 Photo RAW 202x/NDService.

Ok, thanks again. Previously, since you told me to look at it, I had'nt this NDService anywhere on my Mac, so even EasyFind could not find it. Now as I start after total reset 2024 and while new brand catalog is running, I can see the NDService folder in my library... I won't touch it !!!

    Cheers

I'm not sure Finder searches and search apps that use it will show results from hidden folders such as Library. I'm in mine so often that I've turned off the flag that normally keeps it hidden from us.

However, as using PR 2024 with new catalog (it seems be quite complete now) and "playing" with refresh previews, I had no crashes... let's hope it lasts (google translation from french "pourvu que ça dure !)
