Scan frequency is mentioned in Catalog Properties in the user guide. There are only these 4 options, but you're right, if you set 'manual' I don't see a way to trigger that.

Feel free to contact on1 support and ask them. let us know what they say.

If you right-click on the folder in BROWSE tab you will see "scan" in the menu.

If you right-click on the folder in CATALOG tab there is no "scan" in the menu but there is something called "synchronize folder".  Don't know what that does and didn't find it in the user guide, maybe cloud sync?

So, after poking through the user guide again... that screenshot up above, that's for scanning Keywords, not the catalogs themselves. The scan option in the Browse menu is also for triggering a keyword scan.

It actually says that right beside the same graphic on page 43.

    Page 34:

Other options in the Catalog Properties window include:

    • Scan Frequency: determines how often Photo RAW will scan the folder for new, changed or removed photos and folders within that cataloged folder.

I had read Page 43 as specifically addressing only the Keyword AI pulldown menu options within Catalog Properties.

If you right-click on the folder in CATALOG tab there is no "scan" in the menu but there is something called "synchronize folder".

It does the trick, it launches the cataloging process.

Does Scan Frequency actually work?  I have it set to Manual but if I add an image to a folder outside of PR and assign a keyword, without initiating a scan I can then search catalogued folders and find this new image on keyword. It would appear that it affects just AI Keywords which I am not about to test!

Did you assign the keyword in PR?  If you did then you selected or viewed it in Browse which added it to the catalog hence you can search for it.  You can update a cataloged folder just by accessing it.  I've never done a manual scan, but I have it set to once upon launch, and it is not generating any AI keywords (I have all Keyword AI options disabled in preferences and in folder properties)

The user guide is pretty clear that Scan Frequency triggers cataloging (pg 34) .  Does it actually work?  I have no idea.

Thank you for the replies. I've got a support ticket submitted to see if we can get an answer.

Claude, are you sure the "synchronize folder" option is not for On1 Cloud Sync, as I assumed. Scanning a catalog is not the same as syncing and in the Catalog Folder Options, the term "scan" is used. It doesn't make great sense to call it something in one place and something else when trying to apply it. I did try the sync but got no results. I did notice that the sync option is not available for subfolders but only for the top level folder of the catalog.

An add'l note...I've been unable to get any feedback from the Catalog Folder Progress pop-up in the lower left of the interface. When ever I check it, it always says, "Catalog Starting Up" but never gets past that. When I choose Scan Frequency as Once per Launch, it shows up. If I change the frequency to Manual, it still shows up upon opening PR. Perhaps Gerry's question of whether the scan frequency option even works is a valid one.

Yes I’m sure, it does that. It scan and creates the preview when I launch it.

You have probably a problem as it stay in the status of Catalog starting up.

I have another problem myself. I have corruption in my database and it rescan every time I launched the program. I am in touch with the support team to see how to resolve the corruption problem.

per Stevie in support... "Manual is triggered by right-clicking on cataloged folder and choose Synchronize."

Claude, next time you speak, I will listen. ;)
