Turn off the annoying masking properties window in 2024?

Nope. Just position on top of the Effects/Local Adjustment sliders so it covers them up then it will be just like it was. 😁

Seriously, I keep mine just to the left of the editing panel on the right. It's out of the way for using the sliders and it is easy enough to turn off if it isn't needed. It should not be appearing automatically when adding Local Adjustments, that is a known bug.

I agree with Jeremy, Tool icons as well have change to menus, Affinity photo changed their icons as well and it is really annoying and I still cant get used to it. I`m a bit hesitant upgrading.

Don't be. If you had never used Photo RAW before and this was your first experience with the program you wouldn't hesitate to learn its interface. You're only hesitating because it is a change that's going to require a little bit of effort to learn. There are guides to help. Watch all the introductory videos for each new feature. That will show you where the controls for that feature can now be found. There is also the New User Interface Changes - ON1 Photo RAW 2024 – ON1 Support article in the Knowledge Base to explain the differences.

I completely agree with the OP.  That some of the UI has changed is, well, just a change and I can relearn those.  But the masking window is truly a nuisance.  It was MUCH simpler before.

I find it OK - the new mask window is sticky - it will stay where you put it, so it can be located out of the way so it doesn't interfere with other items, I note that it will even stay outside the main on1 window.  The main thing I find confusing is that even when the mask window is open, the mask tools are not active except when you actively click on the mask icon in the layer/effect/adjustments - my brain keeps telling me that if I se the masking window, then the brushes etc. are active (which they may not be).  Overall I'm pretty comfortable with the new interface - just takes some getting used to.

In can live with the new, floating mask window but the old location was more natural and efficient.

The new window can be moved anywhere you want it including on top of the Effects panel returning it to its original, in the way of the controls position. It's location is sticky so it will remain where you place it the next time it is opened.

Sorry Brian I just disagree. There is nowhere in the window where it's not sitting on top of something else. It's just a complete PITA. Not a deal breaker but I long for the day when it's ditched.  Photoshop has these floating windows but they're dockable.  If we had the either-or option it would be good.

I think Chris Ford is right.  It seems the mask window is almost always sitting someplace where it's not wanted.  Having to fuss with its placement is inefficient and, at times, frustrating.

I fully agree: The mask window is always in the way of something when editing!
Put it back where it was before.

I prefer the mask window in 2024. I've rarely found it to be in the way and if it is, it takes a few seconds to move it out of the way. Overall the new UI is a step up from 2023.5. I like it.

It seems like everything about this new Properties window and several other features in 2024 adds  more steps to accomplish the same things we were doing before in the earlier version. I too like 2024, but I don't like having to do more clicks to accomplish the same thing as before.
