The upload problem is a bug with the forum. If you refresh the page, it usually works.

Try restarting on1 first. Then try Delete Settings, you can search for instructions above.

What kind of files are they and where did they come from?

I may have just encountered this myself. Is this what you are seeing? It was taken with a vertical orientation.

Yes that is exactly the issue I am having, my files are also HEIC from my iPhone 14 Pro. If I go to try and edit I get a square box with shiloutte of a person with a line through it. Oddly though any vertical JPG files work fine

I just reported this and sent an example HEIC file. You should too.

I found that by opening the HEIC file in Adobe Bridge it can be saved as a DNG that PR can work with.

Will give it a go not used bridge before will have to install it

If you are only going to use it to convert images to DNG, would not the Adobe DNG converter app be just as good?

I tried that first and DNG Converter would not open an HEIC file. Bridge is what I had to use.

Does an HEIC to DNG conversion using Bridge or other third party app retain enough of the advantages of HEIC (as compared to jpg) versus converting the HEIC to jpg or even TIFF using Apple Photos or Preview?

Yes. DNG is a common RAW format that Adobe has been trying to push (unsuccessfully) as a standard for some time now.

    I'm having the same issue.

    Opened a PR for this.

PS the subject of this thread is not very descriptive ;-).

    What else is new? 😉

Do you mean the fact that handling Apple images is buggy ( as this is not the first and only bug I ran into on PR2024 processing iphone images) ? Or the indescriptive subject ?

    The in-descriptive Subject line.

Brian, no argument with your statement that "DNG is a common RAW format that Adobe has been trying to push (unsuccessfully) as a standard for some time now."

But HEIC images are not raw, they are just a different (more efficient) means of compressing an image and storing it with higher quality in a smaller space. So in that context, is there any real advantage in converting the image to DNG rather than TIFF or even jpg using Preview or Apple Photos?

I would not covert them just because but for right now, to get around this problem it is one solution. Personally, I would use DNG over TIFF and most especially over JPEG.

I have discovered a work around for this problem without converting to another format. Just select vertical images in Mac finder, chose Gallery view and then chose “rotate left” in the right hand panel just below the preview. The files will now be available in PR 2024 albeit now horizontal. In develop press command right bracket to revert to vertical and all will work as per normal. This is a bit fiddly but better than converting to a different format.

Thanks for that Wayne. Unfortunately that command is not in my Finder window even after I use the command for adding it. It is also not available for Windows users so here is another solution.

Send it to Adobe Bridge and do the rotation there. Quit and when you return to Photo RAW you can start editing it by rotating back into the correct orientation.

OK, I found the solution for Mac users that does not involve opening another program and everything can be done right in the Finder.
