When those files are editable, are you using the ones you just copied or the ones you copied from? Your description implies the photos are corrupt. If they weren't, they would open in Edit.

First, i would try re-copying them over. If that doesn't help, try delete settings from this article and see if that helps.

No, I was using the copied files in all cases; I dismounted the CF card after copying them and before opening PR 2024.  The same identical files in the same identical folder are readable in PR 2023 (and preview, etc.) but not in PR 2024.  All I did was switch programs; they are both pointed at the same drive/directories, because it's the only drive I use for photos.  Deleting the program's settings made no difference.  I just went back and looked at them again in both programs; they are indeed the same files and only PR 2024 has a problem with them.

You'll need to talk to tech support then. They are closed over the weekend, but you can send in the request.

I managed to work around the problem, but I'll still send in a report.

After much experimentation, I finally duplicated the files from the problem directory (yes, the one I added the files to originally; call it "directory1") to a new directory with a different name (call it "directory2" on the same drive.  So they show up right next to each other in the catalog view.  The files in directory2 are visible to PR 2024 and open normally, and the same ~20 problem files out of 450 in directory1 appear corrupted.  Then I swapped the names of the directories (just renamed, no files were moved) and the original directory2, now called directory1, exhibited the file issue, with the same files, while the original directory1, now called directory2, is fine.

Pretty clearly, there's an issue with my PR 2024 database wherein (some) files appearing in a directory called "directory1" appear corrupted to PR 2024; but if it's named something else, it's fine.  No idea how this happened, since I know nothing about the structure of the database.  At any rate, changing the name resolved this particular issue and explains why PR 2023 had no problems with the files because it uses a separate database.  I may experiment with creating another folder called "directory1" and copying totally different files to it, to see what happens when I try to view it.
