So you've been using On1 for a year but have never exported a file??? Sorry, but it sounds a bit strange.

As for the problem. Can you copy everything you wrote, open a support ticket and paste it in the comments section. Also attach a copy of the log just after you've tried to view a jpg. If you can, attach a screenshot of Photo raw not displaying a photo and also attach one of the photos that won't open. It would also help to include pc specs and video card/driver info.

Possibly I did export from ON1 in the past year but possibly not as I rarely post to social media or send jpgs by e-mail. I work with raw and print pics. In any event I can't export jpgs now. Though as noted, I can export other formats.

I have been in touch with ON1 tech and sent what was requested. It was recommended that I delete a folder, ExploreService, from C > Users > Your User Name > AppData > Roaming > ON1 > ON1 Photo RAW 2018. I have done this but the problem remains. I let tech know this but have not had any new suggestions from them for a few days so thought I might post here for other perspectives.

It is very strange that ON1 Export does create a jpg which other programs  (Lightroom, Photoshop, Faststone Image Viewer, etc.) can see and open OK but that ON1 can't open the file it created.

I do this all the time and the jpegs always show up in browse in ON1. I can even edit them (and have done so accidentally).

But not with Fuji raw files...

Have you checked the preferences? There is a new check box in Preferences, under the Files tab, at the very bottom that says Treat RAW+JPG Pairs as a Single Photo. This box is NOT checked on my computer.

I assume you have played around with all of the export settings to see if something in there is weird.

And played with the various color spaces found in the File Type export setting?

That's a good point Kevin. Richard, my jpeg export is set to sRGB in the file type area. I don't see why On1 wouldn't read any of the formats, but you might want to check that setting, If it's already set that way, not sure if it would help or not, but you could try some other settings and see what happens.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have played with the various settings and now have done so again. After the changes, I have shut down ON1 and rebooted the computer. Except for the brief flash of the image in very low resolution, the jpg file does not show. I attach a screen shot of what shows in Develop after the brief low res image.

Check the colour space. ON1 doesn't recognise grey scale or less than 65K colours. You can use Irfan view (free) to up-scale the colour space.

Thanks for the suggestion. I normally use Prophoto RGB but have tried using sRGB as well. Neither setting allows ON1 to show the jpg file.

I have discovered another strange activity on my ON1 Photo Raw handling of .jpgs.

I attach a screen shot of six .jpgs from years ago taken with a Canon point and shoot. With photos from the top row of three pics, ON1 will not show either the single pic in Browse or in Develop or Effects. But, the three pics in the bottom row (all .jpgs) do show in all modules are permit manipulation. Strange!

Do you have a dropbox account? If you want to put one raw file and it's associated .on1 and .xmp file along with the ,jpg for it, I would be willing to test it on my machine. It might not help you, but if I do not have any issues with the .jpg or the browse view of the jpg, then it should at least clue someone in on where to look for the problem.

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the offer of help. I opened a Googledrive (I don't have dropbox) account for ON1 Tech and included a .RAF raw file and the .jpg created by ON1 Export. Tech never seemed to retrieve those files and I don't know how to allow you to retrieve them. The .jpg file is this:

The .RAF file is about 33,000 KB If you send me you email address I can send it directly to you along with the ON1 sidecar file.

    Many thanks,

    Richard

Richard, try this... see if you can put the files in this folder I just created in dropbox. I have never done this, but supposedly you can put files there (anyone can). https://www.dropbox.com/request/PioRznlycfWMu7y6embd

I did not want to post my email to this group... and I am not sure a 33mb email would make it thru to me anyway.

Assuming you're both in the On1 facebook group (or just facebook in general) you don't need to send email addresses, just use facebooks private messenger. As for transfering files, I use WeTransfer. To use it, just drag your files to be uploaded, when they're done copy the link and send the link to the other user. This is how I send files to On1 support. It's easy and free.

    Hi Kevin,

As you suggested, I have uploaded an original Fuji .RAF file (processed in ON1), its ON1 sidecar file and a regular sidecar file to Dropbox. Please have a look.

I understand your reluctance to publish your e-mail address. I thought of that only after I had posted the suggestion.

    Rick,

Thanks for your your suggestion re Facebook etc. I am one of the few who is not on Facebook but I hope that Kevin's Dropbox solution will do the trick.

Thanks for the tip Rick. I have a free dropbox that has a somewhat limited storage space. But I have saved the wetransfer link and will check that out.

    Richard,

I ran a quick test and everything worked that I tried. But the .on1 file you sent did not seem to have any edits in it. When I went into the .raf file, there was really nothing under Develop or Effects. So I am not sure what that is all about. Maybe there is a clue in that? Probably not...

Your jpg showed up as you can see in the snapshot. I was able to edit it under Develop and Effects. I made a version of your original .raf and exported it at 2048 pixels and also at full size. No issues viewing them in Browse.

I may have missed testing something. Let me know if there is something you want me to try. I am a little confused that the sidecar file did not have any editing in it, or I should say, that ON1 did not see that there was any editing in it. It did have a lot of things in it. I put your files in a subdirectory of my catalog.

You can see that the jpg (1st one) that you sent has some cropping. I did not get any cropping in the sidecar file either obviously. I did some auto color adjustments on the version I created of your .raf.

The 1st photo is your jpg, the 2nd is the version (v1) I created of your .raf which has the auto color adjustment. The 3rd image is a full size jpg I got via export on the v1 in ON1. The 4th image is a 2048 pixel jpg from v1 (also done via export). The last image is your original .raf.

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for taking the time to check things out. I am puzzled about the lack of changes to the original RAF. I included the ON1 sidecar which I thought had all the changes.

I am out of town for a few days and without my desktop. I have also heard again from ON1 Tech who suggest uploading the most recent version of the program. Also, they are recommending updating various drivers to see if that fixes the jpg problem. I will get on that towards the end of the week when I am back home.

    Thanks again

Glad to help Richard. Hopefully the latest version solves the problems for you.

I installed the latest version of PR yesterday, and I reloaded your files into a catalog folder and I still did not see any of the sidecar edits in the file when I went into develop and/or effects. That is rather weird.

Gerry, I had some problems with some opening and editing some very old jpegs today. I managed to remove the ICC Color space out of the header and got around the problem. But I wanted to try and use Irfanview to modify the jpeg and could not determine exactly how to do that. I suspect I just did not try enough things.

Could you describe the process you have used in Irfanview to get the color space to be ON1 friendly? Was it just an increase color menu or something? I love Irfanview and have probably been using it for at least 10 plus years.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

Yes, Irfan is great, it is my default viewer. It is not directly obvious and it took me a while to figure it out.

    • Open an image. I was converting a whole folder of BMPs but it works for JPGs as well.
    • File -> Batch conversion
    • Add the image(s) to the input file box (drag and drop)
    • Set the output directory
    • Click [Advanced] and make sure 16M colours is checked
    • Strart batch

The clue (I think) is 16M colours AND subsampling ON (2x2)

    Hope this helps,

    Gerry.

    Thank you Gerry!

I was playing with it last night and tested the increase color depth. I saw that worked, but I had no clue there was a batch conversion option that had all of those settings. I just did the batch conversion as per your specification. Sweet.

    I appreciate your help!

    Kevin
