On1 portrait was taken from us after we paid for it, and was never replaced as a free update as promised below:
"What Happened to the Portrait Module in ON1 Photo RAW?
ON1 Photo RAW does not include the portrait module ON1 users have known from older versions. In the future, we will add each of the features from ON1 Portrait to ON1 Effects (part of ON1 Photo RAW). As of now, this is scheduled in one of our free updates for Photo RAW. The update will include face-based skin retouching and automatic eye and mouth enhancements."
Now they are adding "Portrait" with the new paid update as if it is a new feature.
I have been paying every year for these incremental updates, and just before they announce the new version, the previously purchased version starts to lag and crash to the point that I won't use it. The new features can easily be accomplished with Photoshop and Lightroom, which any serious photographer already has. $80 is not much of a discount for the minimal new features.
It still does not include an easily usable browser. You have to plow through folders to find your images, and when you have over 300,000 it is not worth it. Lightroom lets you choose any of your cameras, lenses, years and much more, and cataloging hundreds of thousands of pictures is effortless.
I am now retired, on fixed income, and editing my life's work. I would love to be able to do this without a subscription and will look for alternatives. $79 a year is a subscription, even though you call it an upgrade, for features that you probably already have access to.
I have software such as zbrush which, after over 10 years has never charged for an upgrade.
