Keywords
I just browsed through my keyword list. I deleted some of them because they were misspelled or redundant. Later I looked at some photos and saw the deleted keywords back. Is this a bug or is On1 slow?

Changing keywords on a lot of photos does take some time. If you selected all of the photos with that keyword and deleted it from all at the same time then you might want to let On1 know something isn't working.
I'm not the expert, but if any of your photos still have a keyword (even after deleting) it should still be on the keyword list which you haven't mentioned. So, maybe some more investigation is needed.

What I do:
- I click on a keyword in the keyword list
- control-click on that keyword and select find all photos with keyword in cataloged folders
- I select them all with CMD-A
- I control-click on the keyword and select remove keyword from selected photos. And then nothing happens.
The only way to remove the keywords is after selecting them all deleting the keyword in the keyword list in the metadata panel.

I just tried your procedure above. When I add or remove a keyword, I get a progress bar to tell me when it's done. You might have that bar turned off.
After selecting the photos (CMD-A), when I then select Remove keyword, I can see each photo in turn is removed from the selection until none are left.
So, I'd say it's not working right for you. You can submit a support ticket if you like using the button at the top of this page. Copy the description that you have above and add it to the comments, also save a copy of the On1 logs (Help menu) to a txt file and attach those too.

What are these files?
RAW or others? ON1 I mean can't remove keywords direct from files - only from sidecar files *.xmp, *.on1

.xmp is a sidecar that holds metadata because most RAW files can't hold it themselves.
.on1 is a sidecar that holds a copy your edits, the other copy is in the On1 database.
If you want to add metadata to a photo, assuming it can hold it, use the Embed Metadata option in the Photo menu.
Embed metadata is on page 45 of the User Guide (Aug 2018)
Note: Since my previous post, I've tried what hvierke describes on around 500 photos spread among various folders and have the same results as him. Metadata is not being deleted. That is from sidecars.

Rick, I know where which data is stored. This is also the reason why I asked what kind of files it is.
I tried it with 10 RAW files and it works here. XMP and ON1 files have removed keywords I deleted.0 -
I didn't understand your question, so tried to cover bases.
On the testing I did, if I had a few photos in a single folder, the keyword deletion worked fine, but if there were many photos spread over different folders it didn't work at all. I've sent this in to tech support.
I'll try a few more tests to see if I can pin it down.
By the way, .on1 files don't contain keywords as I explained above.

So I'm finding that if you select 'remove' keyword, it doesn't always work, but if you select 'delete' keyword it does scan all photos and delete that keyword from all of them.

Rick,
I beg to differ; .on1 files do contain keywords. This is a portion of a .on1 file.
"FocalLengthIn35mm":60,"GPS":"52°19'46.734009\" N 5°4'8.448000\" E","ISO":"ISO 100","Keywords":["Boats"],"Label":"",

Yup, looks like you're right. Everything I've ever heard about sidecars says the .xmp has the metadata and .on1 has the edits. It's not mentioned in the guide anywhere, but I did finally find a FAQ regarding the Read Metadata option that says "Choosing this option will prompt the Browse module to read the EXIF metadata from the file on your HD and update both the .xmp and .ON1 sidecar files".
This means metadata is stored in three places, all of which need to be kept in sync.
I don't really see a need for .xmp any more. We should have the option to turn it off.

Rick,
no ON1 should also write the edits in XMP and not create more files (like *.on1) . For all this there are the XMP files

Rick,
correct, I have been complaining about this for ages. Always creating XMPs confuses the hell out of Lightroom when running On1 and LR side-by-side. There is an option in On1 not to create sidecars, but it still creates the XMPs. On1 should take a leaf out of LR's book and just have an option to create sidecars if needed.

I believe that the industry standard for EXIF/IPTC is .xmp which is what ON1 uses, the .on1 files do contain metadata that has been read from the image file, keywords and the adjustments.

Getting back to the original post, Looks like the newest 2019b release has fixed the keyword problem. I've tried it a few different ways and all seems to work now.

@Rick,
which version / Build number do you have running now?
I have here 13.0.0.6100. But if I go to my Account and will download new beta this has build 13.0.0.6069 which is lower than 61000 -
I have 13.0.0.6132. I didn't get it from the website. It was sent to me after filing a bug report.

Indeed what about the rest of us? I purchased early to get the beta and expect to be kept up-to-date!
