Problem with Layers

From what I see on page 10 of the user guide there are no warnings about not being able to create layers.

Not sure if it applies, but page 112 says:

Opening a layered Photoshop file in Photo RAW
ON1 Photo RAW 2019 can open most layered Photoshop files in the Edit module. What happens depends upon the composition and type of layers in the document:

    • If the layered document has basic Photoshop layers and masks, Photo RAW will open the document inside Edit, with each layer and mask visible in the Layers pane.
    • If the Photoshop file has specialty layers—smart objects, text layers, layer styles— Photo RAW will flatten the visible layers and let you work on a composite

As for Extras manager, just looked and mine looks like yours but i know that if i add a layer and go to extras, there are actually Backgrounds, Borders, Textures installed. I just posted a question to Whitney. Will update shortly.

Whitney says this is correct, On1 extras won't show in the manager but your add ons will.

If you can't figure out the layers, you might have to ask tech support. let us know how it goes.

I am having the same problem. I'm taking a raw Sony file (.arw), that has not been touched in Lightroom, into ON1 Develop. I'm trying to add a sky layer from the skies that ON1 provides. Once the layer is imported, I can't adjust it (i.e. make it fit the entire photo). At this point, I also cannot delete it, so I need to cancel the ON1 service in order to get rid of the sky layer. Very peculiar.

It's kind of important that you access On1 correctly and use the proper file type. You haven't mentioned either one, so no way to know where the problem is.

According to the user guide (Page 12) you need to use File > Plug-In Extras and not Photo > Edit In. Also Lightroom should be sending a PSD in order to support layers. I believe the layers will be flattened when returning to Lightroom. There is more info on this in the User Guide.

    Hi Rick:

The photo was inputted from Lightroom, so I used the proper Plug-In. Transfer into ON1 was okay. The layering is the problem.

Christine, all menu options are available if On1 is in standalone mode, so I'm assuming you're using it as a plugin. I don't know which other program you're using, but assuming Lightroom, there is a note on page 12 of the 2019.2 user guide...

There are two primary ways to use ON1 Photo RAW 2019 with Lightroom, via the Plug-In Extras command in the File menu and the Edit In command in the Photo menu. Using the Photo > Edit In menu gives you quick access to the Edit module, while File > Plug-In Extras gives you access to the Edit and Resize modules, and lets you open multiple images inside Photo RAW as individual layers in the Edit module.

If this doesn't point you in the right direction, post more details of what you're doing.
