Photo Raw 2019...so slow
AnsweredHi guys
Just bought Photo Raw 2019 but just so slow. I have also modified my Nvidia setting for On1...still about 10x slower than Photoshop or lightroom.
I am working on Lenovo P71 with 2Tb SSD drives (3 drives total 2Tb) and 64Gb physical ram, Win10, Nvidia Quadro M2200 with 4Gb Video Ram. It's a rocket on everything.. except On1. Takes about 15sec to zoom and pan!!
Want to like this software but not workable. I am running second second Samsung monitor with 3840x2160 as well.
If I open in Photoshop and then edit in On1...runs MUCH faster. Ironic no!? Any settings or advice to fix the speed please?

Are all the photos from the same camera and photo type (jpg vs raw, 12 vs 14 bit, compressed / uncompressed)? I have found that if ON1 has to fall back to tier 2 raw support, performance can suffer greatly. Have you tried installing the 2018.5 version to see if that runs better?

I tried different photos from my files. Some are from Olympus, some Fuji and some from my Sony A7Rii. All the same. Slow, slow. I like the software but takes so long to work with filters, zoom, masking etc... I've been very disappointed. Please let me know if there are any other suggestions.

My laptop with a Nvidia GT 730M GPU was really slow with 2019. I tried uninstalling and re-installing PR2019. I then did the opposite of what people suggested. In the Nvidia Control Panel I set PR2019 to use the integrated Intel HD GPU and it was much faster. So then I upgraded my Nvidia drivers and changed the settings back to use GT 730M and it was fixed.

I have latest driver and I did try changing from Intet HD GUP to Nvidia and vice-versa... Still no good

I found that disabling ALL the cataloged folders immediately made things much much faster. But, export is still painfully slow!

How do I disable these folders? I am so desperate with this software. I never had a program that causes so much problems and little info to solve.
I am almost giving up. I can't even select 1-2 pics on browser. I am unable to click another pic after working on single picture. I have to quit and restart.
This is totally unacceptable.

If you want to remove your Catalogs, Right click on the Catalog folder and select Remove cataloged folder. If you remove catalogs you won't be able to search with keywords or use smart albums.
Have you contacted On1 support about your problems? If not, you should tell them what's going on and include the On1 log for them to look at.

Thanks Rick.I will check out now. Yes, I have emailed them.

Thiha, I have been having the same issues. My computer is running REALLY slow on just about everything within ON1 Photo Raw 2019. Based on what I have been reading, it seems that everyone having these performance issues is running Windows 10. My Photoshop CS6 is running great. I also downloaded the trial version of DXO and that is also running just fine. I sent an email to customer support and they told me to do a bunch of stuff...clean my registry, reboot, turn off my virus software, reinstall V2019.1. It still runs extremely slow. Totally unacceptable. If they cannot give me something else to do to fix the performance issue, I will go back to CS6. It's a shame, because I think this software has lots of potential. To be honest, I really don't think they really tested this application much with a Windows based system. Seems all of the demos are run on Apple, which look pretty good.

I have exact same issues on Lenovo L570, Core i5-6400U, 8GB ram, SSD drive, Intel 520 graphics card. Zooming in on imported raw from Canon 5d mark 3 takes around 20 seconds. Any operation is hardly possible because it is so slow. Windows 7 system, not Windows 10. On1 2019.1 latest update, trial version.

I am also having this issues. I'm running a brand new system with 32GB of Memory, I7 and 6GB video. I should not be having issues editing RAW images. There is a considerable amount of lag for any operation.

The performance of this software among other things is dreadful to the point of being unusable. I have a lot of edits to do for a client in the coming weeks and have had to go back to Lightroom which I have to say is like a breath of fresh air in comparison.
Is anyone getting anything useful/helpful back from support with regard to the poor performance?

Sorry to say, I have not heard anything back from support as of today, I sent a message early this morning EST. I keep getting messages that the best deal of the year is about to expire midnight December 31st. Not sure how they expect anyone to make a purchase before they can address this performance issue. Based on them not replying, that's not a good sign. As a side note, if they are this poor at responding during the trial period, imagine how slow they'll be once they have your money! Very disappointing. I had originally thought this was my computer not being up to minimum specification. So, I upgraded to 16GB of RAM and did a major cleaning of the registry and got rid of much of the bloatware. Every other application on my computer is now running great, except this application. I also got confirmation once I saw Benjamin Vesterby make his post above stating he just bought a very high end machine. There seems to be something else happening with Windows computers and ON1 has yet to find a solution.

Sorry for late reply. I received an email about updating my graphic driver directly from Nvidia and not through WIn10 update tool, which keep saying I had latest driver. Download and installing followed by fresh 2019 Raw again helped a little with freezing files and crashing. But, not as slow but still slow to make the workflow hard work, I also notice this software eats up lots of CPU and ram of my machine. Much more than others.
I don't use it much now and also giving Luminar 3 a trial.

I had a standard reply asking to reinstall, update drivers etc. Which did not help at all. Next I asked them to actually read my report and they got back to me asking for a log file from on1 which I will provide today afternoon when I am back from my trip. There is also a YouTube movie showing this issue that someone recorded to show it to support so the issue is not that uncommon.
I will not be buying it until they fix the slowness problem on modern hardware. Reading comments on dpreview they tend to overpromise and underdeliver.
For me disabling catalogued folders brought few seconds of improvement but still the software is unusable on a modern laptop.

I also got the same reply. I sent the log file along with a screen shot of my graphics card settings and haven’t heard anything back. Just a FYI, I downloaded DXO Photo Lab 2 and it works just fine. I'm not sure I’m going to purchase it, but performance is definitely not an issue. As a RAW developer application, it seems pretty good.

The email I received gave a set of instructions that could not only potentially damage your computer (registry cleaner) if you don't know what you're doing but also disabling anti-virus, firewall and backup should never be required, neither should running this application as administrator.
That being said, none of their instructions worked for me, and I've emailed support back saying as much.

Same for me. I have provided them with logs from my laptop with the specs mentioned above and my desktop PC:
i7-6700, 16GB RAM, GeForce GTX 970 with latest drivers. Although on desktop it is faster and you can actually do something it freezes, panning the photo on 100% stalls, mouse pointer stucks at loupe icon.Another year, another On1 Photo Raw beta...

Agree with many comments here. It sucks. Tools and features are quite good but takes too much resources from computer. Just trying to edit a few photos and software freezes and have to exit. After 4 times just now.... I have given up.

What it’s even more disturbing is that they haven’t responded to this thread! Tech support is clearly lacking. Hard to believe they don’t have one of their staff monitoring this kind of stuff.

Jack you're absolutely correct. I even sent the link to this thread in my original support ticket indicating there are others having this issue.

Unfortunately I'm experiencing the exact same issues. Have they indicated at all that they are working on the issue for windows 10 or just asking everyone to change settings? It's obviously a software issue.

So, I finally got a reply from tech support. Net Net...they are telling me I need a new computer! That’s not going to happen. I'm running a quad core Intel i7 with 16GB of RAM and a middle of the road AMD graphics card. I noticed several people on this thread have pretty new and powerful Windows PCs and are still experiencing performance issues. Not sure why I should spend $1,000+ to run a $70 software application. That’s crazy, especially when this is the only program I’m having issues with. I also downloaded DXO PhotoLab 2, no issues whatsoever. It’s actually a very good RAW developer and has some other great features. Check it out.

Jack, that sounds like a cop-out. I decided to get a refund after they didn't respond after their suggestions didn't work and they didn't respond again. I would recommend the same.

I've been asked to record a movie to show them how slow it is and share an example RAW with which I have issue. And it is not only Windows 10 issue, I have an issue both on Windows 10 and 7 on two different machines.

I have received a full refund, but will meanwhile keep an eye on how things progress...

I am working on trial version but it bugs me greatly I am troubleshooting this for them. If there are so many of us with this issue it is impossible for them not to be able to reproduce the problem.
I was going to just buy it during the discount period but I am now glad I decided to test it first...

I didn’t purchase the PhotoRaw 2019 version. I was only testing during the trial offer. Based on my experience with poor performance on Windows 10, I decided to purchase the DXO product. It works very well and fits my needs.

It is not just Windows with problems ....I actually bought the upgrade, but wisely kept my copy of ON1 from 2017. Running an iMac and am having all of the problems listed in this thread. Choppy performance, incredibly slow lag times and frequent crashes, along with high memory usage warnings.
I went back to 2017 version and it works perfectly as I was missing deadlines for clients. Working on a iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015). Upgraded from 16G RAM to 32G with no improvement. So far I have spent twice the price of the program to fix it! I think they rushed this version to market far to quickly.

I'm having the same problem with the same indications. I am on a WIN10 PC with AMD 2700X CPU, ASUS X470 PRIME-PRO MB with 16GB RAM, and GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card. Have updated graphics card driver and reinstalled PR2019 and still have same problem. This is an update from my old computer that I just spent $800 to do. Also I find that PR2018.5 also performs poorly with this hardware. All my other programs (Photo Shop CC, Premiere Pro CC, Lightroom CC, photoFXlab, Topaz Glow, all MS products, and others of similar category all work as expected without any lag or choppy operation. Not really sure what PR2019 is doing but it is extremely frustrating and really unusable at this point. I also tried to use PR2019 on a new WIN10 install with bare minimum system hardware installed and still have same problem. Perhaps it wasn't compiled or tested with more modern hardware in mind. Fortunately ON1 Photo 10 still performs well with this system and i can still get some photo work done. I am going to reinstall PR2017 as mentioned above and see if I have any luck there.Show less4
