slow performance
Hello,
I installed 2019.1 and I thought maybe my issue would improve. I have noticed that as I used Photo RAW the performance slows. For instance, the mask brush lags, It takes several seconds when I go to 100% and back to Fit. When I drag the refine mask brush and then release the mouse button the progress box will sit there open for 5 or 6 seconds. Everything is generally slower. I don't remember having these issues with 2018.5.
I have Windows 10 v1803, Dell Intel(R) Core i58400 CPU @ 2.80Ghz , 16gb of Ram. Intel Graphics UHD 630.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Walter

Hi Walter - yes, I'm having the same problems with performance that you are, especially when I am zoomed in and using the Fix It tools - almost unusable with the lag time.
In addition, when i am exporting a file that has had some extensive work done on it, it takes 3 minutes and 5 seconds for the export to finish, and this is exporting to a small thumb-sized JPG. It is the same if I am exporting to a network drive, or to the Windows desktop.
However, if I am exporting a file that has not had any editing done, the export is done in a few seconds.

I'm seeing the same issue and I currently have an open ticket. I'm using a Dell XPS 9370 (latest) and it's not really usable.
Have a look in your log file at 'Help>Show ON1 Log' and see if you have something like this:
2018-12-22 13:46:49 ON1 - Video Card Vendor: Intel
2018-12-22 13:46:49 ON1 - Video Card VersionEx: 4.5.0 - Build 24.20.100.6286
2018-12-22 13:46:49 ON1 - Video Card: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620
2018-12-22 13:46:49 ON1 - CreateRGBColorCube: 10.610400 ms
2018-12-22 13:46:49 ON1 - CreateRGBColorCube2: 10.655400 ms
[m5816] 2018-12-22 13:46:49 ON1 - System reports VRAM: 128 MB
2018-12-22 13:46:49 ON1 - VRAM value not found. Assuming the VRAM is 256MBIntel UHD graphics uses VARIABLE VRAM up to 32GB, but I think that may be confusing ON1 as it appears to allocate only 256MB of VRAM - probably the bare minimum...

I had a similar problem using the Clone Brush and RAW files. Each sample and click was delayed to point it wasn't too usable (no problem with JPEG). Zooming in aggravated the problem(s). Tech Support said that my video card was not compatible. Yet it was compatible to the latest version.....plus it has worked fine with other OpenGL and non-OpenGL editors.

I'm thoroughly disgusted and disappointed with the absolute slowness of this. How could software like this be released?? The 2018 version had some slowness, but nothing like this. Same computer -- i5 with 8mb ram (Dell laptop). With 2019 everything is a 20-30 second wait, and that's unusable.
Seriously, this is the first time I've ever had to stop using something and go back to a previous version.
All I can say is that there had better be some updates to improve the performance immediately, otherwise this is basically $80 down the drain. When a company touts that they will eventually be the giant-killing David to the Adobe Lightroom Goliath, eyebrows get raised. I took a gamble seeing that 2018 was "getting there" but this is a complete fail.

I made what I thought was minor adjustments to my antivirus and anti-malware exclusions and it had a tremendous effect on 2019.

I was hopeful, but the Antivirus trick didn't help for me.

Thanks for everyone's posts.
My anti-virus is Mcafee and I can only exclude files. I can't exclude directories. So I don't know all of the files that I need to exclude so I don't know if this will work or not.
Rodney, my log file said the same as your.
Has anyone else gotten an answer from technical support?

Hi Walter,
have a look here under "Faking a VRAM Increase": https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/video-ram-windows-10/
I've set mine to 8096 (no particular reason for that) and I think it's allowed ON1 to use more of the VRAM that is dynamically available on Intel UHD graphics until ON1 can support VARIABLE VRAM properly.

Rodney, thanks for the tip. I will try it out.

It's not our job to fault-find, figure out workarounds and debug their software.
I was foolish enough to buy ON1 2019 without fully evaluating the trial first. I've asked for a full refund and to be advised when they actually have a Windows version that is fit for purpose.

Thanks, Ian. I agree, I have tried the work arounds and they haven't worked. I am disappointed. I will probably go back to 2018.5 because that version seemed to work better on my computer. I don't know what was done to 2019 that has caused this issue, but something has happened.

Kevin, Your suggestion to exclude the On1 directory in App/Roaming and the folder where the images are stored, sped things up for me. I tried the Masking Brush at 100% with a notable increase in speed. Very Usable.
Thank you

I started using 2019.2 and when using the brush, it slows down to a stop. It's impossible to use.
ON1 have said check the drivers etc.. I've spent hours on this ever since 2017.
So I bought a brand new laptop and there's no change.,
I love the program and that's why i have stuck with it from the beginning but when do i call a stop?
I hate the words not responding.
Am I the only one suffering?

Are you the only one??? You're posting in a thread about that very problem.
If you've already contacted On1 and followed the suggestions in this thread there isn't much else to say. Here are some things that you need to check if you haven't already.
- GPU driver is up to date
- GPU is set for On1 to use it
- Remove any On1 folders from the path of your Antivirus
- Close the left panel while editing
Did I miss anything?

Add this to the list:
- turn off cataloging. Remove everything from the catalog and work directly off of your drives.

3/1/2019 Thank you all for your recommendations. This is what I did and On1 2019.2 is working much..much better. On1 is opening much faster, going from Browse to Edit, editing is working fin. Export from RAW to JPG after editing is quicker.
1. Had to remove McAfee - doesn't allow to exclude folders, only files.
2. Install AVG free.
3. On AVG excluded C:\Program Files\ON1\* and ,C:\Program Files (x86)\ON1\*, C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\ON1\*,
Excluded the actual C:\Program Files\ON1\ON1 Photo RAW 2019.exe
added a wildcard "*.on1" not sure if is working but AVG hasn't complained.
Thanks, JM

I just posted about my experience when upgrading Windows 10 from 1803 to 1809. I recommend upgrading to 1809.

Matt Dean - I can't access your link in the previous comment (it says I don't have permission to go there) nor can I open what I presume is your post on the same subject (for the same reason).
Can anybody else read them?

Paul, I cannot access it either. Same message. But I do already have the 1809 update installed. I am not filtering what Windows decides to do. It has not caused me any issues, so I just let it update automatically.

What Juan did is what I did with AVG several months back. And I just double checked what he did and made sure everything was about the same. I did just turn on cataloging last night and added back in all of the catalogs. I have yet to see what performance hits that is causing me. I suspect I will have to remove catalogs after I take a look see. I am fairly certain the the Windows OP system has nothing to do with the ON1 catalog hard drive beating.

After a lot of messing around, I found that if I post something and then edit it, it breaks it. So I finally have it posted and working again. Hopefully this link works too...

To remedy sluggish response I:
- moved cache and scratch to a NVME SSD
- removed all cataloged folders and work directly from the source
