ON1 2019.1 speed improvement encountered by avoiding cloud drives when using sidecarsAnswered
This thread is similarly titled to Kevin P.s post on anti-virus as it is somewhat related by virtue of system impacts that work well most of the time by tend to derail operation of On1.
In my experience, editing files on a cloud drive causes delays/hiccups when using sidecar files. Every little change in On1, changes the On1 sidecar. Every time the side car changes, the cloud service wants to sync the file. This causes a sync action to take place after almost every slider change.
As might be expected, cloud sync over broadband is more noticeable than syncing to a local network personal cloud.
My solution for heavy editing (100's of files) is to use a non-synced drive location. Later, move the files into a synced location later to satisfy my need for redundancy.
Curious, which cloud storage provider are you using?
I use dropbox and have not experienced this when I edit. I have my photography folder in dropbox as a cataloged folder and mostly edit straight from there.
I haven't noticed a problem like you stated, but I'm also not doing a ton of editing on a single photo. Mainly minor adjustments and syncing across multiple in browse.
The premise of what you are saying though makes sense from the perspective of how cloud storage works in general. I am wondering though if there's a difference between the cloud storage providers, and when they begin to 'see' changes. On surface it would appear that dropbox waits until the file is not in use to "sync" it. This might be different with Google or Microsoft. I can investigate that a little more though.0
