Color and Luminance NR - very subtle changes?

i noticed that using the Color and Luminance NR sliders makes very subtle changes to the image.

is there any way to get stronger NR?

@jordan - have you tried holding the option key and moving the detail slider? This will show you exactly where the reduction is happening of both. You can increase that if you want it more widespread over the image.

@ Michael: could you please clarify which is the areas where the Reduction is applied?

When you hold the option key it will appear a grey image with dark grey lines./ areas. Can you explain what the dark grey areas represent for both detail and luminance sliders?
