Focus stackingtool
I am very content with the focus stacking tool. No or only a few artefaccts, very good overall results. My only critique is the restriction to 14 pictures. I usually have 25 to 60 single pictures. I thought it was possible to construct several stacks of 14 pictures and then combine the resulting on1photo pictures to get the final result. But this does not work. Does anybodey knows how to do this?

The limitation is with the video card, apparently it can only handle 14 images at a time. In order to do more, the algorithm would have to be re-written, I imagine so that Photo Raw can do them in groups. Re-writing something that might be considered in the future.
This info about limitation was from one of Dans webinars when 2019 was released.
For now, you might try doing groups of 14 and exporting them as a TIFF or PSD, then taking the resulting files and merge those. From what I've heard, sometimes that works, sometimes not.

Sometimes it works, sometimes not? Sounds rather unprofessional. Isn‘t there anybody who can tell when it works?

The program always runs the same but there are many variables and some people are pickier than others. If you try it and you like it, it works.

I tried it with psd files, but it doesn‘t work. The program comes with Metadata are not the same.
I cannot understand why it is so difficult to tell your customers the exact working of the program.
So, again, is there anyone at On1 who can tell when stacking exported psd files will work?0 -
If you're looking for someone from On1 here, good luck with that. This is a user forum. Officially, the limit is 14 photos.

What a friendly reaction. But, if I may ask it, you reply almost every post, what is your role in this?

This is a user to user forum - i.e. we're ALL just users, so maybe cool it when someone's trying to help you.

I have learned. I‘ll stay away from the user forums.
And thank you for the good advice.0 -
I tried focus stacking with 2019, 2019.1 and 201.2 versions and it never worked.
I tried to merge from 3 to 5 pictures. I risen the issue to the product support but it seems they are still working on it....
Is there any advise to follows to increase the probability this feature works? (I.e.number of pictures to be used? Wide angle vs macro lens..etc.)

I received an On1 survey today and one of the questions was if we wanted more than 14 photos for focus stacking. Here's your chance, watch for it.

Rick, thank you for the advise. A good Focus stacking will be a plus for PhotoRaw
As far as you know are they working to make the tool more reliable and properly working even with less photos?

No, Andrea, I can't say that.
The latest 2019.2 release notes say...
- Improved Focus Stacking — The Focus Stacking algorithms have been improved. This makes the alignment of each photo more accurate and the blending of the photos produces less speckling in the bokeh regions and water. You can also output the results as layers with layer masks so you can tune the results manually. You can also zoom and pan the preview in the Focus Stacking dialog.
And in the recent Survey On1 asks if users want to stack more than 14 photos.
That's all I know.
