Slow Database shut down. Any solutions?

I have about 6000 images and on an 8 core 8000M/Bs CPU and 16GB of RAM (Windows 10) the Databse takes approximately 4 mins to shut down.  All these images are in 1 catalogued folder (many sub) My Pictures.

Meanwhile, over 90% of RAM is being used.

Frequently, enterering the Browse module causes internimable delays.   This is becoming very frustrating indeed.  Does removing catalogues help?

Any other work arounds?  ON1 did spell out the need to let the computer work in the background to let the files be catalogued and I have done that - but all to no avail, I'm afraid.

    I would look in the log file and see if ON1 is complaining about any of your files. If you are not familiar with the log file...

    Look under the Help menu for Show ON1 Log. It may be a huge text file as it never deletes anything in it (that I am aware of). Once you know where the log file is located (replace Kevin below with your username):

    C:\Users\Kevin\AppData\Roaming\ON1\ON1 Photo RAW 2019\ON1 Photo RAW Log.txt

    You can exit ON1, rename this file and ON1 will create a clean one when you run it again.

    Means little to me but does repeat 'Failed to set thread priority'  and other apparent anomolies.

    Is this significant?

    I have a similar issue.  it takes 7 minutes for ON1 to come down.  This log is just bringing it up and then down.

    I hope you both have sent this to On1 so they can see what's happening.

    Bill's shutdown is under 2 minutes (107/60) which I would consider acceptable, after all, it is a Database shutting down.

    James 9 minute shutdown (559/60) is not acceptable and On1 should be made aware of it.

    As a reference, I have 30G+ databases with full EXIF/IPTC schemas that shut down in under 15 seconds. Longer than that, I am looking for code optimizations or database maintenance.

    It seems well known, the On1 data cataloging is sensitive to certain files,  So this can certainly play a part.

    On1 seems to be "considering" database maintenance for a future release.  Maybe they will include maintenance for orphaned files.  Until that time, if you use the On1 cataloging feature,  it is probably best to avoid managing photos from outside of On1 to avoid orphaned files. 

    For instance... On1 will not be aware if File Explorer is used to mover images between different files.  This inherently creates orphaned files (and probably orphaned caches).  

    Certainly On1 software development should know the processes inherently,

    If there is interest in self-diagnosing the problem, using a process monitor during the 2-min or 9-min shutdown could lend insight into where On1 is spending  time.  Thus, helping point the direction to the root cause.

    Very interesting Gus.  I have removed all my catalogues from inside ON1 but database shutdown is now over 5 mins.  I just use the folders to seek files and Albums.

    I am so fed up of freezes going from Develop to Browse and vice versa that I'm back to Affinity and contemplating Adobe again.  Quite sad as the programme features are very attractive ...

    All other programmes including video editing run smoothly ...
