heic orientation issue?
There seems to be an issue with heic format in the orientation area. ON1 does not seem to be able to pick up the correct orientation from photos taken with my iPhone, other editing apps seem to have no problem. I use different ways to take photos, it depends on if I have used the protective case or not for the iPhone. So, some photos are upside down or sideways. If I change them in the Browse mode, they sometimes get changed again in Edit. Kinda confusing.

If there is an actual issue with Photo Raw reading the Date properly, you'll need to let On1 know. Open a Support request and give them a good description of the problem so they can check it out.

Its not the date, its the orientation! Or better to say "rotation." I am going to do some further testing before adding more. Just really strange! I don't see this in other photo editing apps that I have and use.

I meant Data, not Date. Sorry. You should still contact On1.

May have solved this. I was using an ACDsee camera app. Some kind of interaction between the app info and what ON1 is looking for doesn't work. I took some photos using the standard iPhone camera app and there are no issues. I will file a report with ACDSee first. Kinda disappointing, because there are many more options in the ACDSee app.

Hi,
seems to be a long running issue. In ON1 2022 the heic format orientation issue is (again) here?
I remember raised ticket already in 2020 version and I was pretty sure it was fixed in 2021 version.
But this is not only on heic format photos but also for the "Live Photos" mpegs.Regards,
Gerald

Hi Gerald,
I just took 4 HEIC photos on my iPhone Xs rotating the camera through 360º. The only orientation it did not recognize was the counter-clockwise rotation to horizontal. I will report this but it won't hurt if you do too.

Having the same issues as Gerald mentioned with .heic format and Live Photo orientation in ON1 2022. This appears to affect all new and previously imported .heic photos shot in landscape and all .mov files. Please let us know when this can be fixed again.

Todays update did not yet cover the issue....lets wait for hopefully the next bugfix release

I purchased the 2022 version last year. Haven't used it much really. Plenty of bugs there.
I now bought the 2023 version hoping some of then would be solved. Unfortunately I found the same problem that the user above posted about: Photos from my iPhone are displayed upside down in the browse module.
The same photos are displayed correctly in the finder in my computer. So ON1PhotoRaw is not capable of reading the orientation/rotation information from the photo and displaying it correctly.... amazing. I'm quite amazed at this level of bugs in a sofware that costs more than 100euros and hopes to compete against Lightroom and others....
There's no use in super AI functionality, or all this filters and presets and editing options, when you can't even get the basics right. Please refine the browsing/organizing module first.
I'm still looking for a good Aperture replacement... in 2023

I hate to say it , but this orientation issue seems to still be hanging around in 2024Max.

Unfortunately it's not a surprise. This was broken in v22 (which I own, and I don't use because of this issue), became worse in v23 and is still there in v24. I wonder how much sophisticated AI technology is required to get the problem of mis-oriented pictures solved ...

I found a solution to another HEIC problem by opening it in Adobe Bridge then exporting. it as a DNG.

Yes, a simple issue since 3 years and people need to convert images from iPhones created with heic to jpg and the same for videos recorded on iPhones from mov to m4v. I survive with converting. Otherwise a mess in the browse. I reported this issue several times with support but i do not see any perspective of solution. Also reported this in beta phase of 24 w/o success.

Thanks for the idea Brian. But I’m not going to try it for some time. Other things in my life are using up extra time for now.
