On1 PR2019.5 - On1 business as usual
Really sorry to hear about all of the problems with newly released 2019.5. On1 seems to be following their standard release pattern. I've never had one of their updates work as advertised when first released. It's always one step forward and about 10 steps back. Takes about 3 months for things to work themselves out.
I thought that by now On1 would have learned the downside of being overly market driven, with the need to get it out fast and beat the competition -- even if the product is poorly tested junk.
I haven't given up. 2019.5 will work just fine after a while, just as soon as users finish testing it. Until then 2019.2 (which had lots of problems when first released) is running just fine!
-
I fully agree. This Windows version is thew worst I have experienced from ON1.
Do your testing properly ON1.
I prefer to get the release later - but TESTED.
Luckily I have other programs I can use.
So just now the former version (2019.2) is downloading - and hopefully this one installs without to many problems. . .

But what a deplorable business practice.
You suck new users in with a promise of Nirvana....and then trash your formally loyal fans with an update put together by a team of vine swinging primates.
How about a bit of honesty......'Guys we are doing our best to come up with someting new...just give us a bit more time to get it worked out'

As I can't officially download the previous version 2019.2 (can only seem to be able to DL the latest and greatest) I have resorted to getting it from a Torrent site:-( As soon as my backup is finished I am installing it and waiting for the next up(down)grade.

I think the worst part, is that we have told all the bugs, and no apologies, nothing at all from ON1. It's like we all are lying. Remove 2019.5 from production, at least for windows, until is REALLY STABLE.
it's unbelievable you guys see this posts, and say nothing.

Ok, just finished installing 2019.2, Everything back to normal, even the keyword F***ups are fixed. Happy Bunny for now:-)
Edit: Spoke a bit too soon. Lens corrections are not applied in Browse. Open in Develop and the corrections are applied, back in browse - distorted. I guess the .on1/.xmps are not so backwards compatible. Anyway, it is still better than .5
Edit2: Reading Metadata from file fixes this.

Gerry, did you try contacting tech support about getting the .2 version? Far safer than using a Torrent site with the potential for malware having been inserted.
Joao, this site is not regularly monitored by ON1. It is intended for user to user support. Have you reported the problems you are having to tech support? If not, they have no way to know about the problem and won't be aware that they need looking into. I've found tech support to be very helpful in working with me to get my problems resolved, problems which are not always bugs in the software. When there are true bugs they've been fixed with the next release.

Would not dl anything from Torrent. Probably OK, but if not, can cause a whole lot of aggravation. I believe On1 Support can supply links to all past versions.
A while back I learned the value of sandbagging the .exe of a prior release until I've used a new release for several months. Especially with On1, I uninstall current release before I update to the newer release. In the past I've seen interaction between the two different releases installed on the same PC.

Gerald, it was the official version, with a crack of course which I didn't need. The nasties are nearly always in the crack and not in the install itself. It installed fine and I am now up to speed again. All seems to be working fine.

Brian Lawson, yes i've opened a ticket.
What's the point of this foruns, if ON1 don't see them?
They say in the blog that this forums are very important to them:
https://www.on1.com/blog/announcing-on1-support-forums/Not being here, don't know what to think.

I have also contacted ON1 support. The answer was a standard answer that I should look at driver etc.
Noncense. It seems that they do no acknowledge that the Windows 2019.5 is a disaster.
This a link for downloading 2019.2 given to me by ON1 support.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ysghoke1qsivb4i/ON1_Photo_RAW_2019.exe?dl=0
The link works.
I have installed 2019.2 - and it works al long as to do not touch any photos you have edited in 2019.5
If you do that 2019.2 exits without any messages. It just quits.

You shall not be to happy to soon with the 2019.2.........!!! It sucks just as much as about all the other versions!
Have tried it on two similar computers, and just like all times it's sluggish, hang crash without warning, and the export takes forever!
I've rolled back to 2018.5, and are just using it to apply an effect. Then go back into Photoshop to do the masking.

I have been using 2019.2 as an add on to Lightroom.since it came out in february.
I has worked OK - not fast but I have been able to do what I wanted in ON1.
I do not use ON1 as a stand alone editor.
Your name sounds scandinavian - danish ? I am a dane.

Frede,
+1 for the link. I can now replace my Torrent version.

Yes, I'm a dane too...... :-)
After reading all this, I think I just leave the downloaded exe file untouched.....!
The 2019.2 had so many strange behaviors, also when used as a plugin, that it simply was erased completely!
One good thing to say about ON1, they make a very good Tool to erase their shit!! :-)

I seem to be one of the few people not having problems with .5.
Funny, I seem to recall a lot of the "stop making the end user a beta tester" comments being posted on the Adobe forums in the past, so On1 users are not alone.
I've also seen it alleged that Mac versions are always more stable than Windows, because software development is carried out on Macs, and Windows users are left to debug the software themselves.
From some of the comments posted on these forums it would appear that problems are occurring on both platforms.0 -
Yeah, just rolled back to 2019.2. Not perfect but it worked. .5 didn't remember any edits whether exported from inside the standalone or as a round trip from Lightroom. Spent an hour editing an image, exported as jpg and it looks identical to the raw version with no edits. Used as a plugin from LR, did some edits, clicked Done, return to Lightroom and am looking at an unedited image.
Crashes every 2nd or 3rd time I open it.

Just You wait and see..... You will soon be in that situation of a combination of a certain file size, filter/effect being used, a couple of layers and then use Your brush to make a mask, that makes the software "choke" itself! The brush will hang/get sluggish, You desperate try to decrease the size of the brush and zoomrate, and then out of the blue the program crash!!!
I have several times started the taskbar to show the amount of system resources being used, but there is nothing unusual, and a lot of headroom still to perform without problems!
My computers exceeds the minimum demands of the software, by many many many times, and I can in Adobe Premiere Pro make videos, and in Photoshop Work with files of several GB, WITHOUT ANY FORM OF "SLUGGINESS". IT JUST WORK ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS!
The standard phrase of ON1 support is always "update Your graphic driver, because we are doing nothing wrong"! But they don't submit which version driver they used under the Development of the software. We must asume that "the clever boys at ON1" uses several month of Development, and in that time the graphic drivers had overtaken more than once!
Development of graphic drivers are mostly because of 3D videogames, but in ON1 we Work with 2D still images, so why the hell should it be so difficult to make a stable software build on a stable graphic driver??
I use the Worlds best RAW converter, Capture One, and there is nothing about updating graphic drivers all the time, even at program updates! They recommend a driver version that supports the use of GPU processing, and that version goes way back! And that's it!
The same with Adobe software, and I don't think we can discuss that they are professional!!??

Gert, you can edit posts, just click the gear. I usually have to fix mine two or three times before I'm happy!
By the way, I'm not having major problems either.

Okay Rick, thank You!

To Gert Laursen
So " Capture One is Worlds best RAW converter?"
In that case, why are you playing with On1?
You are entitled to your opinion, but that's all it is - an opinion.
I am still having no problems wit 2019.5 and I have used most of the tools and created multi-layer composites. The only thing professional about Adobe is their ability to extract money from people, and they are not getting any more of mine.

Yes, Capture One is the Worlds best RAW converter! - and that is not just my opinion! Also better than Adobes.
You should try it!
The answer to why I'm "playing" with ON1 is quite simple. I've been in the professionel photography cirkus in so many years, and started using ONONE when it was only single apps. Then came "Perfect Photo Suite", ON1 Photo, and in 2017 ON1 Photo RAW.
So, I've been using filters to apply effects to tif files, and making masks of i.e. trees and so on. I have my favorite filters, and they give the Pictures a good looking! - after my opinion!
I'm not a share holder at Adobe, so it's fine with me that they don't get any more of Your Money. Spend it on something You like! :-)
