I've been using the .5 beta exclusively since it was released. I'm very happy with what has been done.

Just received a prompt to install the latest patch. According to the NOT fixed issues, the pressure sensitivity/clickability issue for tablets has not been fixed, and will be addressed in a future release - time frame unknown. I think I will stay with .2

I also saw that they could not reproduce the Intel 500 Series card issues, and don't really seem to know what to do about it, and so I also opted to stay with .2.

Tried the "new patch" - I'm still getting the same original problems I had 1 month ago. Uninstalled .5 and went back to .2 having wasted another morning!

Loaded and up and running. No crashes so far but is still painfully slow at loading directories in browse view, leaving many 'holes' that do not fill in for several minutes.

If this is just a 'patch' for a few problems (which they seem to be making out it is) then hopefully there will be a full blown update for the rest of the outstanding faults. Sooner rather than later, please.

Sadly a step backwards for me, 2019.5 had all the ghosting and artifact problems. After this patch I can edit photos but not save the edit, when I try to move onto the next photo to edit the program either freezes or crashes. edits to the first photo are not saved :(

How are you moving to the next image to edit Guy? Are you staying in Edit mode and using the Filmstrip to select it or do you try to return to the Browser first?

  • Guy Meacham

    Brian, staying in the filmstrip.

Does it crash if you return to Browse first?

Brain, thanks for the tip, interestingly if I return to Browse and don't use the filmstrip it works fine! Bit of a pain doing one photo at a time though! Supports answer is to use their uninstal scrip to uninstall everything including 2018 then set everything up from scratch again. I'm not to enthusiastic about this fix, I've customized quite a bit over the last couple of years and really don't want to take the time to start all over again!

Have you reported it to support? I'm not seeing it on my Mac. If you can reproduce it on demand write up the set of steps that brings it on so they will be able to reproduce it as well.

Hi again, Brian. Yeah, I submitted a request to support where I did what you suggested and attached the ON1 log that the executable maintains. I think it's a PC thing only. I reported pretty much the same issue with the initial 2019.5 release and a tech responded that he couldn't reproduce the issue. However.... he was running a new high powered something or other with speed to burn. It all goes back to my theory that most of the PC issues are interrupt related. A machine running a fast CPU with a fast buss and a fast drive and a fast GPU probably aren't seeing the issue.

I installed the latest update and it hangs as soon as I go into edit mode, same as with the .5 release.  Note the comments on what they didn't fix.   They didn't fix the Issue(s) with the Intel 500 graphics cards.  I have an Intel HD Graphics 530.

Don't know how hard it would be to update the installer to give a warning, or abort, if trying to install on a system with hardware known to cause problems.  I'm going to back to the last version that worked.

Installed .5.1 and I'm noticing that when clicking on the image in the film strip either in browse or develop the render in the preview takes much longer than it ever did painfully slow. What the heck!

Charles Regucci - I noticed the same thing. Then after a short chat with ON1 tech support, I read the sys requirements. The graphics card memory was min of 250mb and recommended 1gb. Now with the patch, it’s 250 mb and recommended 4 mb.

Terry this is so frustrating and should not be happening.  1 step forward 3 backward. Do I go back to to.5? uninstall and reinstall.  This has been the worst year for this software. I have never witnessed so much BS with these patches. Who on their team is testing these builds before they are released to the public with such miserable results from users?

Charles, I finally did a total “clean” uninstall of 2019.5.1 after backing up presets, etc. That includes scrubbing the registry of any hint of ON1 Photo Raw. Then, I reinstalled ON1. It has performed much better since especially the mystery, unpredictable crashes. Raw files are still very slow to load. I have a 4gb GPU next n the way to hopefully address that. I’ve also installed a SSD, replacing my W10 OS and applications workhorse HD. So.... I’ve spent over $300 in order to hopefully get improved performance out of ON1. Of course, the trusty XPS8700 does perform better for other apps, but it’s not something I planned. That said, I still maintain that ON1 PR 2019.5 one the buggiest unreliable pieces of software I’ve ever installed on a computer since Windows 95. I maintain even to this day that it was not ready for prime time and should not have been released. And there’s no excuse for any developer to modify system requirement recommendations to help address the software shortcomings and demands. I’m currently a Plus member as well. Simply put, unless ON1 gets their act together in the rest of this year, they will not get another dime of my money. I’ll go back to LR 5.7 and PSE 14 plus Photomatix for HDR work. I can always run Adobe’s raw converter and edit DNG raw files to address compatibility issues. Bottom line, ON1 better get their act together unless a declining customer base is included in their sales model.

Hello Terry, Well said, and yes I agree to the software requirements seem to go up with the new releases and patches.  I have never had any of these issues with Lightroom (NEVER), but I was open to other options and see where it got me. Please refresh my memory if I uninstall.5.1 release and reinstall.5 my edits and cataloged folders will remain? Do I have to do anything special to have my cataloged folders show up again?

Edits should. I don’t catalog so I can’t speak to that. I suggest an email to ON1 tech support. Stevie and Ryan are excellent imho, Caterine not so much.

    Ok will do thanks

Uninstalling will remove your catalogs also. They will need to be rebuilt after rolling back to .5.

I had to roll back to 2019.2 & I'm probably stuck there for now. Anything past that will not work on my PC. Stevie recommended a complete re install, registry cleaner, back up presets etc but too be honest I can't be bothered with all that I don't have the time.

Personally I don't think computer requirements should increase when a version is updated, you buy a version with the promise of working updates. Fine to update pc requirements for major updates 2018 to 2019 for example.

Love ON1 but can't buy a new PC right now so 2019.2 might be the end of the road for me. Whether ON1 cares about that or not probably depends on how many of their customers are in the same boat as me!

Guy, I'm in the same place I don't have the time and patience for the uninstall reinstall routine with this software anymore. I have already done it a few times. I would love to know what type of system these developers and designers are running and testing this software on. The pros who boast about the better than sliced bread new features and create the content we see advertised on the site. Are they having the same issues? I'm not buying a new pc to run this bloated resource hog. Yes I'm ranting on because i just can't believe this.

I just learned something about Windows 10, just because you have an advanced graphics system installed it doesn't mean Windows 10 uses it. My system came with an Intel 530 HD built in, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M preinstalled and Windows 10. I don't think the Nvidia was being used for any of the imaging applications until this morning.

I went into the Nvidia Settings application and setup each imaging application to specifically use the Nvidia GPU. All are running noticeably faster and I only had 1 application that had a problem with the new GPU. That application told me what had to be changed and it was an easy fix. Best of all I installed the latest 2019 patch and now it's working. No more freeze ups every time I go into edit mode.

I assumed, since it was all setup out of the box, that the Nvidia would just be used when appropriate. Not so.

Well, guess what Douglas?  I just added the on1 exe to my AMD Radeon game explorer where you configure the software to work directly with your graphics card. Defaults AMD profile settings I did not change anything here.  When I launched the software from the Radeon Game app it loaded right and the raw preview is loading much faster this may be a good sign but I'm not calling things fixed yet until I put a load on ON1. I will report back on the effects this has. l
