Keyword Problems

There are a couple of threads on these forums about issues with keywords. You might want to read through some of those as a lot of what you are talking about has already been discussed there.

ON1 does not support keywords in raw files as a lot of them do not support them either. They are stored in .xmp & .on1 sidecar files. Yes, PhotoRAW does have problems finding the photos it has read keywords from. Image file formats can have them embedded and the program has to be told re-embed any changes you make to have them removed from the file. There are some tips other users have found for dealing with problems at https://on1help.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360048385452.

Report the problems you've found and their causes to tech support.

Thanks for replying Brian. Yes I have read through some of threads but cannot see a definitive answer and mostly guesses. I posted this in a bit of desperation as Tech support has said they cannot replicate the problem (so there is no problem) and put my case as solved. I have spent almost all my time, hours and hours, on this since they introduced keywords and since the last update my years of patience is starting to wear thin

I feel you Jacques, I've spent hours & hours on this problem too.

If it's any consolation, On1 has been able to see the problem happen with the files I sent, but still need to figure out what causes it.

If you can find any patterns with the files that aren't working, let On1 know. Were the keywords added by an external program? At import? During Lightroom migration? etc...

Yes Rick I have over the years used many programs to add etc Keywords. I have just recently downloaded Microsoft's Photo Gallery to see if I could remove some of the keywords, did not help. I have tried Adobe Elements and Bridge to try make things easier. Unfortunately I cannot use my Lightroom to check. I have while looking for answers discovered that some files have two .on1 sidecars that are different to each other with the same name except the one has (1), surely this is not normal? I will send them an example of this as well. Only NEF files, and it looks like all give the problems

Something was done in the last update that seems to have really messed up the keywords.  They don't always pop up like they used to when I start typing - and lots of times the popup doesn't show the keyword I'm looking for even though it's in the keyword list.  This is just 1 of the many issues with their digital asset management - it's frustrating, cause that's the main purpose I'm using the program for - I think they start completely over and hire some decent database programmers, cause the program is getting worse with each release.
