How much space does ON1 need in "appdata/roaming" ?
I`m running Windows10 latest version
as I´m getting out of space on drive c
I looked
appdata/roaming/ON1 takes 58,8 GB
there is a PHOTOSETTINGCACHE this is 34,7 GB
can I delete ?
I thought all the imagework is in little side-files ...on1 ?

The editing information is stored in the sidecar files. However, the program uses that folder to cache rendered previews of all images. Deleting it will only provide temporary relief as it will be rebuilt over time.
I recommend purchasing a small SSD dedicated to holding ON1's Scratch space and Browse Image Preview. This will free up space on your boot drive and improve the program's performance. Attach the drive to its own connection to the computer. If you get an external drive do not put it on a hub. If it is an internal drive for a desktop system put it on its own connector so it does not share drive I/O with the boot drive.
As for the space needed that all depends upon how many images you have, more images means more previews and that means more space required to hold them all.

Hi Brian,
got the same question. In ON1 preferences the BrwoseCache and Scratch is set to another internal drive, but under C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\ON1\ON1 Photo RAW 2020\PhotoSettingsCache... has 10 GB+ ??? What is stored in that folder and can I change the location or delete it?
Thanks
Markus

I agree with Brian regarding the external drive which gives a great performance boost.
My setup is:
Ext USB 3.1 256GB nvme drive:
PerfectBrowseCache (movable in Preferences) 41.9 GB
ON1 Photo RAW 2020 Cache (Scratch, movable in Preferences) 0 bytes, clears on exit.Roaming folder:
PhotoSettingsCache 2.21 GB (lots of little TIF images)
MigrationCache 49 bytes
MapCache 0bytes (haven't used Map view apart from initial test)
ExportCache 370 MBAs per Martin's post, one user regularly clears out the Photosettingscache, so if this has no detrimental effect on the workings of PhotoRAW then maybe it should have an entry in Preferences to Move/Reset it like the other two. However, since I don't know enough about the other cache's I can only recommend moving the two through Preferences which would save you about 24GB.

Martin, I don't know what is stored in that folder so I am reluctant to recommend deleting it. That is a question best answered by support.
As for moving it, I know that the Windows installer asks where you want the installation to go. I believe that allows you to specify the location for the Roaming Data folder which would allow you to move that to an external drive as well but I don't know for sure. Maybe Rick does?

I have 2020.5 installed on the D drive of my Win 10 laptop. The folder "Photosettingscache" still resides at C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\ON1\ON1 Photo RAW 2020\PhotoSettingsCache I don't think there is a way to move it.

@Paul: And where did you set the raoming folders to the external drive? In the pref's of ON1 it's only possible to set BrowseCache and Scratch folder

My situation is a bit different. I moved my entire Roaming Data folder to another drive. That's an option in Windows. Then when I install On1 I specify that the ProgramData is in a different location as well. All of this is just because my C: drive didn't have enough room for On1 to do its thing.

Rick, how did you move the roaming data folder to another drive? I didn't see that as an option on install. Just main program itself and then obviously move the browse cache and scratch folder in preferences.

@Rick: Ah, ok, sounds interesting. Means you copied the appdata folder and then created a link that shows on the new location?

OK for those Win 10 users that want to move the On1 roaming files. Looks like you need to move the users folder. Here's instructions on how to do that. Rick - I sometimes forget Google can be my friend.
Edited to remove the link not sure those instructions work for roaming folder

Markus, if you look at my original post, the 2 folders in the external drive are BrowseCache and Scratch folder moved through Preferences. The other cache's are still in the Roaming folder.

Yeah, but our problem is the "Photosettingscache" folder in Roaming, that increases and is using to much (G)bytes (in my case 10GB) and how to change the location for it. Your post looks for me that you where able to set the location for that folder and not only for PerfectBrowseCache and Scratch

Markus, the only way to move the Photosettings cache is to move the whole appdata/roaming folder in Win 10 you cannot move it in the On1 application.
Here is a link to a video on how to do that. I haven't done this yet but from looking in several places this is how it is done. Note: Follow at your own risk and set a system restore point before you do it in case something goes wrong. And don't blame me if something goes wrong.

edited to add /roaming to path

David, you have to find the Roaming folder inside the User's folder. Right-click on Roaming, open the properties and select the Location tab. You can then enter the path where you want it to be. Mine is at the top level on my D: drive. Once you apply that, Windows will start copying the Roaming folder to the new location. That could take a while. If it fails (mine did a few times) the old one is still intact and stays active. Once Windows gets a good copy, it changes Roaming access to the new location. I believe Windows leaves the old Roaming folder in place, I would suggest simply renaming it rather than deleting it until you're sure everything works ok.
The user folder doesn't have the option to move it, only the Roaming folder has that.

Thanks Rick, I found that!
Haven't done it on my laptop yet but will. My C drive is tiny.0 -
I do not recommend moving it to the same drive as the program's scratch space and PerfectBrowseCache. That would bring back the I/O contention moving them to their own drive was designed to prevent. I think the program's performance would suffer.

Then I've something to try, thanks. I will how it works :o)

Ah yeah David, don't worry, I wont blame you if it doesn't work or whatever ;-)

Good morning,
I didn't try to move the "roaming folder" yet and I think that can't be the solution. In this location "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\ON1\ON1 Photo RAW 2020\NDService" is a folder "Core". In my case it's in around 6 GB. Always when I close ON1 a "core_bak" folder will be created. So I have altogehter one core-folder and 3 or 4 of those backup folders. I don't know what algorithm is resp. for creating, deleting etc. and for what reason. But that are 25 GB+ of wasted space. What's that good for? Is it the same on MAC-Systems? However, I've created a sched. task that runs a script to delete this backup folders. I hope ON1 will fix this, it's pretty annyoing.
For everyone who is interested; the important part is the bold marked one. But don't blame me, if you delete something you better should not... ;-)
