System resources and processor build
Hi -
I am looking for a second machine to take over as the primary machine for my custom build which has recently had some crashes and is taking too much of my time even though it is very fast machine.
I am looking at an HP Z-6 G4 tower, something that has onsite support as an option which I don't have now with my current system.
The Z series are all Xeon processors and offer dual proc support and many versions of procs with different core configurations. Additionally, you can put in a lot of differnt GPU's, I have an EVGA 1080 now though they have either AMD, or NVIDA, e.g., Quadro P-2200.
Back when I was using Photoshop and now also for video editing (Resolve) I know it is mostly about GPU support and system throughput versus more RAM and a slightly better clock speed for the processor.
Is On1 multi-threaded and would it benefit from more than one processor and how many cores? I was looking at a mid level proc: Xeon 4210 2.2.Ghz- up to 3.2Ghz 14MB cache and 10-cores.
At what point does On1, working with files around the 50-125MB range not make any difference? I also note, though perhaps how the system talks to its database that there are performance hits to the system.
Also, working on say a 40MB NEF file zoomed in, apply a mask or moving around does bog down.
Thanks,
Gilbert
