Backup ON1 Database
I'm a new ON1 Photo RAW 2020 Beta 2 user and preparing for leaving LR 6.14. There is a lot of things a need to learn about ON1 before to take the final step to ON1. One thing is the database. I use TimeMachine to backup up my computers. But when coming to my photos and Lightroom database then I do that manually on a regularly base. I have copies of my LR database and all photos (more then 1,2 TB) at 3/4 different discs. By copy the database and photos this way I'ts also easy to install Lightroom on another computer, and then install the database/photos from my backup disc, then I have an exact copy of everything in the other computer.
- Where is the ON1 database on the disc, where to find it, and is it only one file?
- I have already Installed ON1 at a second computer, and want to move the database from the first one to the second, so I have the same settings/presets at both of them.

ON1 does not provide a way to backup or move the database from one system to another. It is stored inside the ~/Library/Application Support/ON1 folder which your time machine backup will capture. However there are various subfolders holding different pieces of it and I'm pretty sure some of the identifiers are system unique and may not work the same if it was copied to a different system.
By default the program stores the edits in a .on1 sidecar file for each image you work on. Copying both the image and its sidecars (there could also be a .xmp sidecar) to a different system will bring the edits along to be added to that system's database. Go to Preferences > Files and check that the Sidecar Options checkbox is checked.
There is a suggestion on the ON1 Photo RAW Project page to add a backup system. Go there and add your vote for this idea and eventually when enough people vote for it the company will add it.

On1s Database is not transferable. Typically you would use the Sidecars as a backup of your edits, then when re-installing or moving On1 the database will rebuild itself from the sidecars. You have to reinstall addons and re-create Albums yourself.
The new On1 Sync Service that's coming looks like it will fix some of that...
ON1 Sync Service
View and edit photos with ON1 on all your devices without requiring you to store them in the cloud or a closed system. The new service will also sync ON1 albums, presets, and more between your devices.

Thanks @Brian Lawson for your answer and clarifications. I have added my vote right now. I have already set the sidecar options checkbox.
Brian, can you please describe the difference about *.ON1 sidecar files and *.xml sidecar files? So, ON1 use both of them as I understand. Whats are stored in *.ON1 and what's stored in *.xml? Metadata in one fo them and photo edits in the another one? Or maybe mixed?
Thanks @Rick Sammartino! ON1 2020 Beta 2 is the first version I'm running. And I have read about the coming ON1 Sync function. Hopefully this will solve some questions I have about sharing my ON1 settings/presets and photos among my Mac computers in some automated way. However, this functions seams to be disabled in the Beta 2 version, or maybe I don't understand how to use this sync? I haven't seen any documentation yet how to use this Sync functions.

Ingemar, the On1 Sync hasn't been released yet. I believe it will be an add-on for extra cost.
The .ON1 files store a copy of your edits from the Database and also metadata. The .XMP files store metadata for compatibility with other programs.

Thanks Rick! There will not be any extra cost for On1 Sync. I have already paid for my ON1 Photo RAW 2020 Beta 2, and expect all functions already described in that release is included in what I already have paid.

how do you backup the image version created ? Or where can I find them ?
I have created Export presets, where can I find those if I want to copy them to another system ?

Versions are stored inside the .on1 sidecar file for the image. To backup a version make a copy of the .on1 sidecar.
At this time the only way to copy presets from one machine to another is manually. Use the Manage Extras command under the File menu to export them to a .ONPreset file. Copy that to the other machine and double-click it to install them.

@Brian Lawson, Thank you for the quick answer.

It worked after I restarted the On1 application. Good for me.

Could you be more precise, which entry contains the preset created in the Export tab ? and the Metadata ?0 -

My mistake, we've got some terminology confusion here. I thought you meant the presets you see in the left side panel. The presets or Styles for individual filters are stored in a database in your ~/Library/Application Support/ON1/ON1 Photo RAW 2020 folder. While the individual files can be located the program accesses them through a database file stored there as well. You cannot simply move one of the settings files to another system and have the program see it and the database files are specific to the computer they were created on.
